Since it is falling off the register in Oct 09, I ended up blowing my rifle budget on a 220ST. Impulse buying is going to kill me.

How do you know its falling off the register?

Don't worry. You just bought the best P220 model ever built IMHO. The best shooting .45 out of the box and one of the very best guns in .45acp ever built. I will put these P220ST's up against any other .45's out there including those overpriced 1911's.

DOJ roster says so. Sig will probably renew it though, right?

Congrats.. I have a regular P220, but always wanted a P220ST. I fired one at the range once and the thing has some serious heft to it.. feels like it means business :)

Would you put it up against a P220R Carry SAO? ;)

careful with that ST...

i bought the first gen 220ST with the wacky SPORT frame (and hence the non mil spec rail).

shooting it was all over the place.

turns out the shooter was at fault... after a couple adjustment, it was nice... ;)

I also bought a P220ST recently, but it had nothing to do with my rifle budget, since I don't have a rifle budget. But I do have a pistol budget.

The P220 series in general are excellent guns, and most have the aluminum frame to keep the weight low enough for reasonable carry weight. I'm guessing that they were developed to compete with 1911 pistols for market share, since they are of similar size and magazine capacity. But by eliminating the cocked and locked, single action only 1911 system, they appeal to those who don't like this system in a carry gun.

But if you wanted to design a P220 strictly for shooting and not carry, you'd use steel for the frame and get the advantages of weight for recoil control and durability for years of heavy shooting. And that would be the P220ST model, which has a loyal following of customers.

It's okay, the 220ST shoots like a rifle anyways. ;)

Nope. 220ST is no longer in production.

That's too bad. One of the things (fairly low on my list, though -- I'm a SAO guy at heart) I would love to have done is the Grayguns 220 10mm conversion.

They'll only do it on the 220ST, because yeah - it's that tough.

Sig still produces a stainless P220, but it is now called the "Elite Stainless". It has been slightly modified to incorporate a "beavertail" on the frame, short reset trigger and fancy wood grip panels. But it is essentially the same gun. Unfortunately, it is not on the CA list, probably because it does not have a feature to disengage the trigger when the magazine is removed. Here is a photo from the Sig website:

I know I wanted the Elite, but not on the list. Mabey they will replace the ST with the Elite when the ST expires.

I feel your pain......it's hard for me to start my first build with my "impulse" buy......just bought an SKS......

245 renewal is probably based on current inventory. I was told by a Sig Rep they were not going to renew the ST, but who knows in the gun world everything changes on a daily basis.

I thought I read that Sig was still producing ST models for CA since CA doesn't have the Elite on the roster. As a caveat, it was only a passing comment on a forum somewhere. So I could be recalling mistaken information. Or recalling the information wrong all together.

On a side note:
If the ST models aren't renewed for the roster, does that mean even guns manufactured before the roster change would be unavailable to regular people?

If they do not renew it then you would only be able to purchase via PPT in CA. I am sure someone with more information will come along and give you a better explanation.

As a matter of fact I have cause I own one. The Carry is an awesome shooter and will give the ST a run for it's money. I also had a two tone Carry SAO that I sold to someone here. It was an awesome gun also. P220's are great guns.http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v465/Nzo13/Vault/IMG_1406.jpg

Smart choice.

Not only that it will be off the registered list soon, but it is a discontinued model as I don't think SIG is making it anymore.

Besides, you won't regret shooting it: Arguably, it is the softest shooting .45ACP pistol I have shot due to its heavy Stainless Steel frame ( I have yet to shoot a Star MegaStar, the SW 645, SW 4506, the CZ97B and the Witness 45). Quite possibly, it is my favorite among the SIG P220 pistols besides the SuperMatch.
