I shoot everything with mine, except for wolf. Bump for a great pistol.

I'll second that and steer clear of anything without a jacketed bullet. Powder puff reloads are good too as long as they come from a larger named company. Picts man!!!!

Another vote for Winchester Ranger Talon for HD:

The way I see it, if it's good enough for LE, it's good enough for HD. Winchester Ranger-T 165gr., Federal HST, Speer Gold Dot LE...etc. All great stuff. I tend to go with 155gr. or 165gr, not the 180gr.

For the range, whatever factory fresh FMJ you can find...nothing special necessary; Winchester White Box (WWB), Blazer Brass, Federal Champion, PMC, etc. After a while, you may even find yourself starting to handload.

I was in your shoes not too long ago. I got my G23 in April and had been stocking up on cheap Blazer from Walmart here & there. Managed to build a small inventory of about 500 rounds and finally made it out to Metcalf a month ago. I fed it 200 rounds and she ate ever single one.

For HD, I have 180 gr Federal Hydra Shoks. I haven't shot those yet, since I was only able to come across 1 box when I got em. Just my .02 cent from a fellow noob...

Thanks guys. I'm going to check and see if my Walmart has any of the stuff you mentioned in stock.

As previously mentioned, don't shoot any non-jacketed lead bullets through the stock barrel. The polygonally rifled barrel tends to lead up quickly and can cause problems.
If later you find yourself wanting to shoot lead bullets(I do during competition) you should get an aftermarket barrel with standard rifling.

+1 the Winchester T's, Gold Dots, and HST's

I use Blazer and WWB for range time. And for self defense, Speer Gold Dots, Winchester SXT, Federal HST, Remington Golden Sabers, CorBon and Hornady.
