View Full Version : Question about shipping(returning) handgun to owner... out of state

Here's my situation:

A friend was visiting from out of state (Texas), and left with me, his revolver. He wanted me to do some etching on the backstrap, and build a custom case for it. I have finished with the work, however, he has since returned to Texas.

Can I ship it back to him directly? Or must I ship it to (and/or from) an FFL?

Again, this is a handgun that is owned by him, and I would simply be returning it. Neither I, nor he is an FFL.

Thank you for any information,

Legally you could borrow it for 30 days. However, you are not supposed to ship guns across state lines unless it goes to an FFL.

Now you can ship guns to yourself. So if he came back real quick, boxed the gun up with his name on the address and the return address, that is legal.
