I must be the worst hunter ever..

For a city guy I do alot of hunting.. I hunt deer, pigs, dove, quail, coyote, and about anything else that comes into season and I get the opertunety to hunt.

I am a specific species hunter in that I don't just blast whatever I see. A ground squirel challenged me yesterday at 6 feet while I was carrying a 12 guage shotgun loaded with birdshot and I gave him a pass. It never seems to fail.. I never get anything.. I am a really good shot. I practice regularly at different ranges. I shoot clays with great sucess.. When I get into the field I just never kill anything. I went dove hunting this weekend and saw lots of dove. I shot at lots of dove. I baged 0 dove. One bird was flying directly away from me into an oak and I blasted him. The tree dropped leaves all around it the pattern was all over it... clean miss. The bird musta felt the shot going by and turned hard left flew 75 yards into another oak and then disapeared up the canyon. Typical for me.
If I go deer hunting I will see does and spikes but I never see a legal buck till I'm hunting something else (like dove).

I guess it's a good thing I really like walking in the woods and sitting in really nice mountains for really long periods of time really quietly of I would get discouraged. I also never have to clean any game.

I wonder if this is going to be like fishing..I didn't catch fish for the logest time and now I have an album full of great fish photos.

I haven't killed anything in Cali.. Was hunting off of HW 20 & 16. Saw lots of elk & three does. If I had a Elk tag I bet there would have been no elk in sight.

You guys are the same as most of us, unless you know someone with prime land it is always hard hunting in CA. I have shot my share of game but it is spuratic. Good thing I have been doing it since 69'.

I hunt about 600+ acres of private land. The place is loaded with game. There is a 12000 acre hunting club right across the mail road from here..

I figure it's like fishing.. keep at it and you will eventually be rewarded..
