I met this guy on a boat cruise while on Kauai and it was really cool. The first guy worked for wilson combat for about 10 years and really knew his 1911 and AR stuff. The second guy, Ron Phillips, was a 25 or 26 year vet of wilson combat but decided to leave to start a small company some of you know by the name of Nighthawk Customs. He and 3 other business partners started and ran nighthawk for about 5 years when he got sick of the BS and other stuff so he bailed and does absolutely 100% custom guns now. His buddy said that nothing from wilson or even nighthawk will compare to his hand made guns. You can check out his site at www.phillips1911.com and see pics and prices. Let him know that a guy from california on a boat cruise sent you to him and that you found his info on Calguns which I told him all about and he'll throw a few bucks off of pricing. He's more than willing to do group buys and work with a small handful of people, but it was an honor and a pleasure meeting with one of the best 1911 smiths in the world. The man KNOWS his stuff when it comes to building them. Hope you enjoy as much as I did.

Sorry, fixed the link. You can get a NRF frame and send it to him or buy any 1911 frame here and send it to him for the rest of the work. Guaranteed it will be top notch. Over 30 years and a master smith title.

I think its safe to say you need to send him your existing gun and have him build a custom gun for you as he doesn't make production "cookie cutter" guns that would qualify for the state roster.

Cheesy photoshop font for his logo on the gun. Otherwise some gorgeous 1911's.

NRF is not something we should be doing right now.

Why, what makes you say that??

Why, what makes you say that??

It undermines the roster challenge.

If a DA can show that we have a way around the roster then it's a lot harder to prove it is oppressive.

Fair enough, but it sucks not to be able to get a really nice frame.

It does, but patience is a virtue and I'd rather CGF drive a truck through the Roster and buy what I want, when I want than us having to NRF and play that [expensive, time-consuming and limiting] game.

Nobody is doing NeRFs as we want to stand down on that for now so it doesn't have a risk of mooting Pena v. Cid suit.

So he'll have to work on a frame or gun you already have, or acquired thru intrafamilial xfer, etc.

Looks like good work and his prices are quite reasonable.

They wouldn't be able to tell you ever bought one anyways...

...heck, I can get a Nerf gun for under $20 at the local Target, and THEY DON'T EVEN KEEP RECORDS!!!

Forgive me. I'm sure that joke has been made before and is overplayed, but I couldn't resist.
