ok! so my grandma died last month and when she died she left us some money and item's to the family.(not in a legel will, just in a box labeled for us to find after she died) she gave me a .25 cal baby browning.that she had for a long time.my question is how to legally transfer to my name with the person who owned it being deceased.i'm not even sure were she got it at!.plus, how to find out who the gun is registered to?.would be a sham to have to turn it over to the police, but dont wont to have and an unregistered weapon in the house. if any one could help would be great.

nothing illegal about having an unregistered gun if grandma gave it to you before 1991.... or even if she said "This is yours, but I'm going to hold it for you for a few years"

There is no legal requirement that a pistol be registered in the state of CA, they only need to be registered if the ownership of the pistol changes after 1991

Send in that form listed above. Then go clean it, buy some ammo, and take it to the local range. Make sure you come back and give us a full report! :)

Welcome to the forum, mlopez1933. Share a picture of that Browning if you can.

What a coincidence! My father in law said the exact same thing to me about his revolvers when I married his daughter in 1990! :43:
