"Mayor David N. Dinkins announced yesterday that the city would mount a major campaign to evict public housing tenants who own guns illegally. In a dramatic reflection of his theme, his speech in a Brooklyn housing project was interrupted by the noise of nearby gunfire."

Dinkins didn't hang out in the 'hood except when it suited his needs. More to the point, he set up his little speech in an area known for frequent gun fire so as to be able to make statements like this:

"The irony of it," the Mayor said later. "Here I am talking about gun control and I'm hearing gunshots."

Make no mistake: there was no irony involved. The location was chosen for maximum dramatic effect, nothing more.

This ineffective former mayor's policies actually allowed for an INCREASE in violence in NYC, which provided for Guiliani's winning of the position a few years later.

In summary, the nonsense being spouted about "Rhino stoppages," "insanely deadly shotguns" and other hyperbole is really just the same old stuff from the same old people.

While it's annoying that lies get perpetuated by our "news people," they have inadvertently thrown us a bone by linking hunting weapons (pump shotgun) to the other "evil" guns already under fire for decades.

Let's not waste this opportunity to get the gun community further united against the rhetoric of the new administration and our soon-to-be new justice on the SC.

The gunfire was probably pre-arranged.

This could be an opportunity for one of the pro-gun, pro-shall issue politicians to do likewise:

"Hear that gunfire? Those are criminals, folks. No amount of laws will stop them. Unfortunately, the law-abiding citizens in this area have no right of self-defense. Let's give them CCW's and then the criminals won't dare fire their guns on the streets like this."
