View Full Version : What HiPowers aren't on approved list?

So I was looking at the DOJ approved list and I see "MkIII", "Standard", and "Blued" as well as several others. Does this mean "Belgian" HiPowers and such are on the approved list? Does the gun have to be a MKIII? What about a MKII or T-Series gun? "Blue" with fixed sights seems fairly open ended.

Well as the MkII and T-Series are no longer in production, they won't be on the list.
The DOJ list is for PRODUCTION pistols only. If it's not currently in production and the manufacturer cannot send in samples for the DOJ test, it's not on the list.
A MkII or T-Series will only be available via PPT in the PRK unless you find a older one (50 years) that can be imported as a C&R.

I think only Browning and FN are on the CA DoJ approved list so other clones (Belgian, Argentine, etc.) are not approved for sale in California. But you can do PPT for those guns that are in California already.

PJK--9HP's are still on the list (look under Feg Hungary). I got one of these a few years back when dealer cost was $199. They are excellent copies of the Hipower.
I am most curious. There have been none in the pipeline for a few years now, yet somebody keeps paying the fee to keep them on the apporved list. I wonder if there might be a bunch of the sitting on a dock somewhere waiting to clear customs.

by the way...all FN & Browning HP's are made in Belgium. (not all assembled there though.)

The FN HP-SFS 9mm is no longer listed, but I don't think it matters
because my SFS has no mention of it being a SFS.
