Just started my 10-day on a brand new 226r 9mm, I also bought a 22 LR conversion kit and an extra 22 mag...

Total damage including tax, CA Test, etc..was 1461.00

Did I pay too much? Bought it from an "undisclosed" retail store in Mountain View, CA...

Thanks in advance for your help...I want to make sure I am getting a good "bang" for my buck...

You could do better, but you're not being horribly taken advantage of.

Fast LOW retail price approximates:
$850 - pistol
$350 - 22lr kit
$100 - dros, HSC, mag, etc
$100 - tax

total: 1400

Wow. Really? Do you really want to know?? After all, you've already bought it...

Here's a typical example of slightly used ones, with all the extras:

Yeah...those used deals come around "once in a blue moon"...right?

For a Brand New (no history...no rounds) setup in CA...it sounds like I did "ok"...as I was not sure if I was getting a good deal...

I am all for a used gun, but my wife is obsessed with CSI, and she doesn't want to buy a possible dirty weapon if it had been used illegitemetly in the past...you never know...

Well yours is stainless and if it's "black" stainless, I believe those are two things to make it more expensive.

That really isn't a typical listing by any means. The seller had an "I'll take it" list going out the door in a matter of minutes. That was a rare deal.

To the OP, I agree with uclaplinker, you could've done better, but you weren't ripped off.

There are much worse things in the world than a wife who wants you to buy new over used! :)

I'll be captain obvious and point out that the time to check what kind of deal you are getting is BEFORE you make the purchase and not after. The order you did it in is just a recipe for pissing yourself off, but glad it worked out for you this time.

You weren't overly ripped off. But if it's the store in mountain view I think it is their is only one I know of, then you paid about 60-100 bucks more than you could if you drove a few miles down the street to another store.

I browsed their shop a few times but since I know prices no way was the service worth the nearly 100 bucks price difference for a new gun especially the Sig's. Hell even his used prices are ridiculous.

Those aren't low retail, those are extra discounted and shipped in.

That is, by definition, not retail.

The price you paid was reasonable. Yes you could have gotten it for less but jumping through a few hoops (nothing wrong with that). You also got it for under MSRP and are supporting a local business that you rely on for a whole host of services, win/win. We need to remember to take care of the local shops that we like in these bad times or they may not be around.

BTW congrats on owning a SIG. Even if you paid full retail, you still have an amazing gun, as I'm sure you know already.
