I frequently travel to Arizona. Can I leave a handgun that I purchased in California in a relative's safe there and not be in violation of CA (or federal) law?

It seems like I should be able to. . . so that means I probably can't. . .

I could be wrong about this but IIRC as long as you lock it up so your friend has no access to it and you make a storage contract with him and give him lets say $1 a year, you should be good.

This may be a dumb question...

But why don't you just leave it locked up in your house? You can buy a small safe and skip the hassle. Or leave it in your sock drawer with a trigger lock... your front door has locks, right?

Maybe the OP just wants a handgun he/she can use while in AZ and doesn't want to bother with transporting it back & forth from AZ to CA.

jdsfam2- to clarify:

I frequently travel to Arizona, and I want to know if I can leave a handgun I own in a safe in Arizona, so I don't have to transport it back and forth. . .

Ah - I misunderstood the question. Sorry!
