While I wait for my mag wells to be EDM cut for this project:
http://www.calguns.net/calgunforum/showthread.php?t=194834

I decided to make a couple of guns that aren't commonly available (but legal).

The first two projects are going to be a 9mm (colt style) AR and an Armalite pattern 308 that accepts G3 mags.
Im waiting on my J size drill bits for the AR10 take down pins, so I started with the 9mm.

So up until about a month ago you would have had to start from a forging or a block of Al, but the fine folks at yellowlogic have made available an 80%

It comes with all the necessary bits.

I think the ejector is made of Ti... which is sort of overkill, but nice.

Here it is mocked up:

Its a pretty straight forward build, you drill the three holes on the side
http://www.23.org/~mmca/9mmAR/9mm_006.jpg

And then you cut out the fire control pocket.
The external dimensions are the same as a normal ar15 lower...
so any jigs you already own will work (this is the CNCGuns rig)

After that you flip it over and do the selector spring detent.

And you would be all done. But recently Ive been trying to apply what could be called machinist best practices.
So what I've been told you are supposed to do is take a bunch of big ugly roughing cuts and then go back and make a light pretty finishing cut.

Thats all good and well, but I forgot to do the finishing bit. Ugh.

So the pocket is .02 (.01 on a side) too small. Ill have to do that tomorrow.

It looks pretty good...

But yup... doesnt fit yet.

But thats not a big deal, Ill fix that right up.
Here is where I need a little advice.

The upper I want to use is a Spike's 9mm blem.

http://www.23.org/~mmca/9mmAR/9mm_011.jpg

These uppers were made with the rail taller by a couple of tenths (I dont feel so bad when I see the pros make silly mistakes as well)
So I want to get a hand guard that is round, or at least without a top rail. Something around 8.5~9 inches in length... any suggestions?

Next quandary...

I want to use one of these super short buffer tubes, but have to remove the weight from the back of the bolt to do so... has anyone tried this?
If its too light Im thinking of making that adapter plug out of something really dense, like tungsten.

Will take a couple of pics all put together before it goes off to the anodizer.

Nice Work!

Yellow Logic products are the best out there, well worth a few extra bucks for a special gun.
I just finished an AR-15 Style Standard Mag Lower. I can’t wait to put my family crest on it and then anodize it.

So when is sombody else besides Olympic going to make a lower to tkae glock 17 mags?
My two yellow logic lowers are ready to go (one for sten mags one standard) just picking the rest of the parts. But would like to put together one I can feed with all these glock mags sitting around.

I would buy one that way I could interchange the mags while out at the range.
