View Full Version : Another Anti-CA GB Seller - With a Twist

I've been looking at .308 bolt-guns for the past month or so on GB, trying to decide between a Rem 700 and a Savage. Last night I came across a Savage with the exact configuration I would want and I proceeded to plow through the sellers wordy description.
At the very end of the listing, he states "I will not ship anything to CA."
I sent him what I thought was a polite message explaining that while I understood his reluctance to deal with CA, by refusing to do so the anti-2A crowd had just take one more step towards winning.
This morning I got the following reply:
No you don't understand. I have had dealings with three people from California in online buying and selling. One took my money and never shipped my item, one tried a fake money order and the other wanted me to ship a firearm before providing payment or a signed FFL. I just cant afford to waste my time with California residents.
Were you interested in buying my rifle or did you just want to spout off about what you ""think" you know about what I am thinking.
I just replied letting him know that I had been quite interested in his rifle but that if he wanted to hold 37 million CA residence responsible for the deeds of 3, that was his decision.
Talk about a CA hater.
It's not like I hold the 13 million folks in Illinois responsible for the one Chicago politician I really can't stand...

Well you got your foot in the door now.
if you like the .308?

I'll be taking my business elsewhere. If he just had the wrong impression of our laws that would be worth a further conversation with him. But to say 37 million people are flakes because 3 are isn't worth dealing with.
Did you ask any questions about the rifle? Or did you preach to the guy about his selling practices?
If you would have went about it like you wanted to buy it, you would have probably gotten a different response.
A lot of people don't like Californians. Can't really blame the guy.

I'd do the same.
Just for the record, it's NOT me. I'm CA-friendly and would ship compliant guns if I had my FFL. :D

:) I certainly meant no offense to our friends in Illinois. In fact, I learned to shoot and hunt outside of Carbondale!
It certainly wasn't my intention to "preach" and as I reread my message to him, I really do think it was polite. Honestly, asking a question about the rifle would have been putting the cart in front of the horse since his listing said he didn't want to sell it to me.
The way I see it, CA gunners need to spread the word that we're still here and we're still fighting for our 2A rights AND that the simple act of refusing to sell to us is letting the gun-grabbers win. Some outside CA may view us as a lost cause and they may think loosing the battle here won't hurt them but I'd dissagree. For better or worse, a lot of what happens here spread to the rest of the country.

These sellers just don't like CA money. Too bad for them.
For anyone who buys/sells, they understand green money is green money no matter where it comes from.
Out of state sellers got it easy not having to worry about CA sales tax. The ones who caught on make a fortune!

maybe he was afraid you'd pay with an IOU?
I once contacted a seller in Maine as to why had "No sales to Maine residents". on his listings. He replied that Main-ers always wanted to renegotiate the price after the auction closed,or not do the 4473. One fellow wanted to use the gun he "won" all hunting season before he paid for it. So it's not just California that has bizarre people.

Wanna bet? The probem is that Kalifornia's predominantly anti-gun Congressional delegation votes for federal gun laws that affect 49 other states...

Funny! You just might get paid with an IOU, if the Kalifornia Highway Patrol or another one of Arnold's LEA's was buying your guns. I heard tonight that the PRK is already $351 million $$$ into those IOUs and it's getting worse. Layoffs and furloughs at the universities are next.

I can. I will not ship to Illinois or Kenya.

The good part is it looks as though the whining about "XYZ wont sell to CA" seems to be petering out:thumbsup:
ETA: to the OP, how about showing some love toward your local dealers? That way your next thread won't have to be about how no one will accept an out of state transfer and/or how they are ripping you for 100+ to do it.

Maybe it's this empty bottle of wine in front of me but I need some clarification on your point here. Somebody decides to treat a large group of people a certain way because of the behaivor of some portion of that group... are you really saying you think that's OK? Replace the word Californian with Gay, Jewish, Black, or whatever and see if you feel the same way.
I do however think you have a good point about showing some love to my local gun shops... so I'll be heading down to Ade's this week to ogle some bolt guns.
Californians are not a race, creed, religion, etc. Its ONE guy that has issues with deadbeat CA buyers. Its not the end of the world.

I saw the same exact thing for a Remington 700 SPS. That really pissed me off!
