View Full Version : Too FDE, or not to FDE?

Is it more of a pain than it's worth to try and color coordinate an AR to FDE or OD?

I really want a black CTR (anyone found one in the sac area?) and since I cant find one I thought maybe i'd go FDE.

It seems like an expensive hassle, which is why I am apprehensive.

With all of this color coordination talk, you should consider a pair of one these to match as well:

If you have more than one AR it's good to have a different look on one at least. +1 on FDE.

You're no help!
If they had themin flats I could make do but heels hurt my corns.

Seriously, I think maybe I should go FDE for kicks and giggles. Man, PMAG, MBUS, Rail Covers, CTR, MIAD...this oughta be fun.

Someone please oppose the idea.

Why are you putting an FDE man on your rifle?

Krylon, Come again? Take it off? The only chemicals I know that will take it off plastic will melt the plastic too.

rubbing alcohol does work without melting the plastic. brake fluid i've read works as well when applied and set over night(i've never tried it personally). either way just giving you another option and to be honest if you are looking to have a pretty safe queen then its definitely not the route to go. the krylon can always be added to fix blemishes and worn areas. removing all together does take some elbow grease but it does come off without damage.

The cool thing about this new fangled internet fad is that you can actually buy things that are not in your area and they show up at your door a couple days later ;)

hit up JK supply Co....

On FDE..

My FDE rifle is cool....its not more expensive to FDE. All the parts in most all colors are the same price.

If you want FDE Duracoat in the Sac Area...I have Magpul FDE and tactical Dark Earth that is a bit darker brown color....I like it because its not the same FDE everyone else has.

Its the lighting....or the camera flash. Its a much darker brown color if you put a Magpul grip next to it. I'll get a hold of a camera later for a better comparison.

While this no doubt looks way cool, when you think about it, it's not that practical.

When you hold it, the handguard is covered by your support hand, the pistol grip is covered by your other hand, and the stock is tucked away in your shoulder.

In the sun...Tactical FDE is a good match to Magpul.

Lauer says that their Magpul FDE "varies" from batch to batch.

There is a Tactical Dark Earth next to MP DE

I meant to say that it really doesnt serve any camouflaging use if all the parts are covered by your hands.

If you want to do it large scale or just do a lot of weapons....you need to put some $$$ into your equipment.

If not...grab a kit from Lauer when you order Duracoat. Its easy ad you get everything you need all at once.

A lot of people airbrushes....I prefer not to. I use an actual spray gun.
