View Full Version : Spencville Range Clean-Up Interest

Sacramento Black Rifle would like to arrange a Spencville Range Clean-Up and is willing to pay for a dumpster/container for this clean-up. If anyone would like to volunteer their time, please email me with suggestions of dates and times that would work best for you, so that I can coordinate this with the Spenceville wildlife area. Sundays would work best for the shop hours.

If anyone has any contacts with the Spenceville parks and wildlife please let me know so that we can get this setup. I was out there last week and it definitely needed some cleaning up! It is the worst that I have seen it in a while and we do not want to give the antis a reason to shut it down.

Lets not plan this day specifically for cleaning, but shooting after!!

Thanks Again,
Rob

Isn't that a state game refuge? You may want to contact the region DFG headquarters for that area and see who you might want to talk to about scheduling.

sargenv introduced me to Spenceville about 14 years ago or so. It's a shame how much it gets trashed up, I'm glad someone is looking to organize a cleanup trip.

Has it been that long? It's likely been since I went with you and your bro being the last time I was there to shoot..

Yea I think you might as well go to Orovile if the bridge is still out???

This is the way I normally go, but by car of course.

Hey this is something I'd like to do provided it falls on a weekend that I don't already have booked up with other stuff. I wouldn't mind picking up some trash if I can check out some of your guys black rifles, etc. I'm in the process of building my first AR (slowed due to possible impending job layoff) but I can bring some leather gloves, my .17, 10/22 and .270 for afterwards.

Let me know a date and time, I can probably make it.. It's probably my favorite place to shoot.

Stupid suggestion, maybe someone could bring a large magnet if they have one, there is a ton of steel cases out there, might be an easy cleanup.

Not a bad idea, but there were 55 gallon drums left there as trash cans. Of course, people had shot them all up. So, I don't know if leaving behind trash cans works too well. In addition to being shot up, many of them were outright overflowing with trash. Seems like the pickup service out there is infrequent.

Rob I won't be in a drunkin state on sun! I know firearm training and cleaning a place I enjoy( even if it is some dirtbags trash that was never taught how to clean up after themselves). Even if Jarad won't help clean up. I will pull his weight too so he can possibly teach lil Cameron how to shoot guns and have a good safe time. Father and son type ****. I won't want to miss this because I over drank. I will do the best I can to keep the places gun owners enjoy open for everyone to teach others the American way And how it was before Obama takes it all. Power to the helping people!

I will buy a huge sack of trash bags and I will see if I can find my rake and shovel.

To describe me in a nut shell...
I am a fat white 20 year old, I will be bringing my late mothers gold PT Cruiser with a CGN sticker on the back.

If anyone doesn't know where it is or wants to meet up beforehand let me know I will be happy to meet up with you outside of town and have you follow me in. Also, if someone else in the Sacramento/Roseville area wants to come but needs a ride let me know I can fit one other person.

EDIT: I will see about bringing some gatorade/water as well. I will also bring some Coke too.

Had a great time out at spenceville today cleaning and shooting. What a big place! We all worked as fast as we could to clean so we could shoot. Even people that were there shooting when we arrived and had no idea of the clean up helped out. It was great. A bunch of great people working together to keep spenceville open for all. Now we need shade out there. A tree planting event of a covering would be great. Maybe we can get building materials donated somehow and build something out there to protect us from the sun. I got there late. at like 4PM because I was OD'ed on NyQuil and had to be home to watch someones kids, and I hate to say it..

But the range was absolutely littered again.

Bottles everywhere and boxes.

a group of people were shooting glass beer bottles and tannerite(not a bad thing, just mentioning it) at the far left 25 yard lane.
Saw 3 illegal things that would put a man in club fed for 10 years or more.

The range has been cleaned up of all those walmart 12ga hulls. I picked up a bag of brass and brought some trash from 2nd furthest lane back down to the garbage bags, There were so many boxes out there used for targets, I couldn't count them with both hands and feet. This was all 3-4 hours after you guys left. The shotgun wads at about 30-35 yards is amazing. If raked up it would probably fill 2 pickups

We can try all we want, but we are out numbered by stupidity.

Or we can get some of those home depot guys to clean up the range. The dust was just kicking up too much to do much for me. My eyes started watering and the sinuses kicked in.

ALSO there was a truck there with a flat tire that no one claimed.

I dont know if im ever going to that place again, I have to pick up after people and wash the car every time I go there.

ONE MORE THING, I almost got ran off a slippery gravel road, the one coming from lincoln by an oncoming white F350, he just hogged the whole road on the turn and force me to swerve to the shoulder and drift my car back straight. Had I hit the brakes, I would of smashed head first into the side.

Fing douche bags man.

AK kept stove piping.
Scope caps on the AR broke off.
People kept shooting each other's targets.

It was a horrid weekend.

But the range was absolutely littered again.

Hence the reason I said it was clean (for now) and I started to think; instead of saying I give it a week until it's trashed again, I should've said; a few hours. :)

Sorry that I really didn't get any pics of the SBR guys; as a result there really wasn't any photographic proof of the fact that they were there and helped clean up other than the pic of their trailer and sign. I was going to try to get them in the group pic but the rest of us were ready to leave.

Just got back from the spenceville range. It didn't look bad, I take my trash home with me, including targets. If everyone did that it would be way clean, maybe some signs asking to"Please remove your targets when done"?? Does anyone think that would help?,I do see a lot of responsible people there & I know it's the losers that leave their target trash.

Good work guys!

You should see the Cherry Creek range where I live - it's about 500 times worse than yours is. I've never shot there, but I walked by the other day and couldn't believe it.

I was there today, with my Dad and Uncle. The range was not spotless but I would say pretty clean.

By the usual spenceville standards it's pretty clean.

Went there on 9/7/09 and it was horrible. Trash everywhere. I wanted to make everyone stop and clean up for 20 min. A dumpster did show up while we were there though. It was nice to see and made me wonder who sent it there. The people who maintain the wildlife area must set it all up but don't tell anyone about it. Wish I could help in some way. I know sac black rifle tried to get ahold of someone there with no response. I just want to do my part so I can sleep at night knowing I'm not one of many who caused us to lose the shooting area due to abuse.

I was there on 9/6 and there was no dumpster. It wasn't awful, but it was getting there.

Hey, if someone puts a clean up together for this range please send me a pm!!! I will be more than happy to go up there and clean up and it will be a good way to kill two birds with one stone since I have wanted to make the trip up there to shoot and check the place out for some time.

Lame that people do not get the HINT that these areas WILL get shut down... They are on all sorts of organizations radars to just need ANY reason to shut them down...

Signs with fee's imposed to litters who are caught, just like on highways maybe?

How about rangers going out and seeing that people are cleaning up and edjucating shooters? DO NOT let people leave without there sh*t? Just a few ideas.... I know some jacka*ses will shoot the signs up for sure but... I am just saying.

I think it would be great if the littering laws were enforced at spencville. Everyone would win the people who suck would be fined and probably never come back and the people that follow the rules and pickup there trash could stay.

Great way for the state to make some cash I'm sure they could pay someone to sit out there all week and weekend for a couple of fines a month.
