Well, its about what I am looking for for the moment. I skimped out on the scope for a while till I can go for a vortex from scott @ liberty, but this one is amazingly clear with the ultra fine crosshairs and red illuminated reticle that works great. Here's the shopping list

Lower:
Sun devil billet lower,
RRA LPK
YHM EZ takedown pins
Rear takedown pin detent mod
Stag A2 buttstock
MMG for detachable mags
3lb JP yellow springs with a honed trigger group (still kinda sucks but its a little lighter anyway

Upper:
JP15 complete upper
stainless steel mid contour 18" barrel with rifle length gas
JP LMOS bolt carrier with enhanced bolt and M4 cuts
Badger tac latch
Adjustable A2 gas block with super fine front sight post
VTAC Free Floating Handguard
Bennie Cooley Brake (freaking loud)
Burris PEPR one piece mount
Truglow 6-24x44 scope with 5" sunshade.

Now to bang out some rounds when I get back from Hawaii!!!!!

Looks very nice! Featureless for the win!!

What is the story on that huge optic, what are you intending to do with this rifle?

Really cool color on the upper/handguards to boot!

Nice!

The scope is a bit excessive for my taste but I suspect that it has a sunshade that adds a few inches to it.

Congrats!

Strictly a paper puncher and potentially a varminter. I may try to pluck off squirrels at 200 yards. The optic isn't that huge, but its bigger than what I wanted originally. I found it for so cheap I couldn't pass it up. I'll never use it past 16x but after 20x it starts to get a bit dim. Bang for the buck though, I got the scope for 69.99 at Natchez which "retailed" at 299.99. I checked around and couldn't find it for less than about 209.99 so I figure I got a really good deal. The only down side I found is that the illuminated reticle works from 1-4, 5 shuts off and 6-11 work perfect. For some reason the level 5 just doesn't turn on.

Very nice build. What's the twist rate of the barrel?

Believe it or not, its a 1:9 so I can go down to maybe a 40gr bullet and up to about a 69gr or so to keep it within its ability. I'm going to try the 40 gr Vmax bullets from hornady and see how they run. I've heard of other guys squirrel hunting with them and just knocking the crap out of them.

I'm not sure what you're trying to point out on that one?

Doesn't sound like a good deal to me. It seems like only a matter of time before 1-4 don't turn on, it loses zero, doesn't track right, and the reticle breaks inside and you will be spending more money on a better optic.

nice looking gun, I would throw a low pro gas block and lose the front sight tower

bombadillo

I would but i'm going to shoot irons as well with a rear peep sight so its gonna have to stay for now. I'm figuring out which match rear sight to get for a really fine rear aperture. We'll see.

As I said before, this is a hold over scope until I can get some decent glass. I have a whole bunch of stuff going on in my life right now between work and home and studying for another state board so this is just something to give me a slight bit of joy while scrimping on some stuff for a while. I will honestly never use the illuminated reticle anyway but for those looking for a decent scope with very fine crosshairs that will hold a zero w/o problems out of a .223, then its perfectly fine for me. I don't need some nightforce on a rifle thats going to see the range a couple dozen times a year and maybe some squirrels. If its gonna be for real game, then i'll put something a whole lot better on there. Its definitely going to beat the BSA/Barska stuff in the same price range.

Is that front sight in your field of view on that scope.

bombadillo
07-09-2009, 10:13 AM
Nope, I was really surprised too because I have seen a lot of scopes on here and asked the same question over and over if the front sight post gets in the way of the picture, but I can now say that it truly does not get in the way one bit. I can't even see it while looking through the scope

Is that front sight in your field of view on that scope.

When using optics magnified above 3x, the front sight base "disappears" from the field of view and does not affect the sight picture to any noticeable degree.

Why is your gun a female?

bombadillo
07-11-2009, 4:24 PM
Its better than being a male

If I called it he, it'd just sound weird. I've never heard of a Camaro or any other muscle car being called billy, him, mr. ??? You know, same kind of thing.

I'll let you shoot my Rem LTR in .308 if you let me shoot yours. I guess I have to make it up there first on a weekend to swap rifles for a few shots.
Looks fantastic!!!!!

No issues with it. It locks up really nice and has a lot of room forward and backward for proper eye relief. I put it right about the middle of the rail and it worked out well for me. I shoot nose to charging handle though so it is about 2.5" of eye relief. Anybody else would have to shoot with it pulled back a bit. Also unless it was really low, you'd be stuck without BUIS but this is a plinker, not a battle rifle.
