Are you looking for .270 WSM

Nope, thanks anyway, I'm looking for straight-up .270 Win.

I hate lots of .270 win at my local Walmart I can score for you and ship it if you are interested.

That's extremely kind of you, I appreciate it!

I'm pretty sure that I'm not allowed to receive ammunition via mail in SF, though.

If you wouldn't mind taking a peek next time you're there, though, I'd be interested to know what it costs at Wal-Mart.

No problem I am going there tonight.

BTW I cannot find any hard documentation of the fact that it's illegal to receive ammunition by mail in SF (or Marin), although it is alluded to in a bunch of forum posts. Is it an urban legend?

Actually, I just did a search in the SF Municipal Code and all I can find is the following:

http://library1.municode.com/4201/DocView/14140/1/22?hilite=ammunition;ammunitions;#0-0-0-681

Which governs transfers between a vendor and a purchaser. It defines a vendor as anyone who 'is engaged in the sale of firearm ammunition'.

Now, IANAL, but -

- 'engaged in' would seem to be different from 'engages in' and I read it as implying an ongoing ammunition sale business as a going concern; and

- it's not obvious to me how enforceable this is upon a person that is not subject to SF court jurisdiction

I have never heard of anything but I don't live up there either. I have shipped to Sacramento and San Francisco a few times.

PCH-Does walmart have lead-free .270?

Tons of it where I am?

For the normal lead stuff it was $17.97 a box and for the lead free it was $35.97 fro Barnes TSX Vital Shok. 150gr.

Rohnert Park walmart is stuffed with .270. I can pick up as much as you want and drive it down to you on 7/21. I have to be at SFO that day anyway so I will just charge you cost.
I don't know how much it is or what type of ammo. I just remember seeing 20+ boxes that were black with red Winchester lettering.
They also have lots of 22-250 WWB.

Thanks very much for the kind offer. I'm amazed by the generosity of folks here and hope to be able to return it sometime.

I believe the black/red stuff is the super-premium (i.e. ~$35/box) stuff. I'm really looking for very inexpensive ammo (i.e. <= $15/box) to practice with. (I'd like to shoot a couple hundred rounds before deer season as I've not shot much in a while.)

Thanks again for that. I'm going to hit the Vallejo gun show on Saturday and see if I can source anything cheaper.

You can ship ammo to San Francisco, it's not illegal. I've done it a lot, you just need to find websites that know the law so they'll actually do it. It frustrates me to no end that companies like Midway won't ship here because they are ignorant about the laws.

I made the trek down to Walmart in Mountain View and got 6 boxes of Federal 130gr .270 for $14 each. Sweet.
