I saw that Overstock.com had them for $409, but they have a price match gurantee. So I found another place online that had them for $365, but were out of stock. So I sent the link to Overstock and they said they would match the price.

Is that a good price?

Is the 512 a good unit?

I got my Eotech 516 from Ebay for $399, shipping included, from Arizona. With the Bing cash back of $35 dollars, it made it even better. In the end, it was about $375. I made sure to shop with a reputable seller. If you are doing any "Buy It Now" on Ebay, use Bing Cash back.

$356 incl. shipping in a CG group buy back in the beginning of May, and I don't even have it yet, so yeah, I'd say that's a decent deal...

You can do better if you are patient. I found one for $325 shipped and it came with GG&G lens covers.

$40 vs. months & luck... dunno if that's really worth it.

It's about $40 above a used price.

That's a good price if it's a good retailer. The two best deals that I've seen were 1) $361 (minus 1% for google checkout) at ManVenture Outpost - but they are out of stock. I've never dealt with MVO before but their reseller ratings (http://www.resellerratings.com/store/ManVentureOutpost) were good. I can let you know more tomorrow because that's when UPS drops off my new EOTech 557. :D 2) the GG&G (http://www.gggaz.com/index.php?special=78) bundle (when in stock) with their quick detach mount and lens covers for $415.

Go to the EOTECH WEBSITE (http://www.eotech-inc.com/), and look what is the first thing that pops out at you.

Or you can click HERE (http://www.eotech-inc.com/documents/Recognizing%20counterfeit%20EOTech%20Sights%204-09.pdf) to check out the PDF file.

If it passes the test, and you feel comfortable...go for it.

Deals are out there...it depends if you want to do the legwork to save 10 here 20 there...

Now, when I see a good deal on any AR related product, I spend less time bargain shopping.

I take the plunge...

No relation to this seller in any way but it's where I got my 516.

http://cgi.ebay.com/EOTECH-512-A65-REV-F-OPTIC-NEW-IN-BOX_W0QQitemZ350218330669QQcmdZViewItemQQptZLH_Def aultDomain_0?hash=item518aa3a22d&_trksid=p3911.c0.m14&_trkparms=65:12|66:2|39:1|72:1205|293:1|294:50

If you enter ebay through live.com by searching for a Wii or PS3, then buy from his auction you save an additional 8%.

So IMO the price isn't great.

What is the max operational range of the 512, Or any holo-sight for that matter w/o a magnifier?

I'm just using irons right now with the adjustable carry handle rear. I've done out to 400yds with that. Didn't do great at 400yds, but that was the operator, not the rifle. Was my first time ever shooting from that far and it was just prone, no sandbags or rests of any kind.

But my point is.....I would hate to lose the ability to switch back and forth if the holo-sight will limit long range ability. Plus I do like simplicity especially as it relates to reliability.

Could you use a co-witnessed set of BUIS's to flip to for longer range shots perhaps?

They have a 65 MOA circle for up close and to draw your eye to the 1 MOA dot for medium ranges. The 557 (http://www.eotech-inc.com/product.php?id=8&cat=1) AR223 has 3 additional 1 MOA dots calibrated for an M4 for longer ranges - although they do recommend using a magnifier for longer ranges.

You can get the eotech 556 / 557 to help estimate range similar to your carry handle.

The biggest advantage of the eotech is faster target acquisition and the small 1MOA dot does not block the target are farther ranges.

With my AR with the Carry Handle I found it hard to hit a piece of chalk at 50 yards because the Front Sight Post blocked the piece of chalk and area around it. I was however still abele to hit it with the iron sights.

I have the eotech 516 and it does not have the nice reticle of the 556/557, I kind of wish I had purchased that one now, although at far ranges I'd probably rather have a scope anyways. I do have a Troy BUIS I can use for co-witness long range shots but then I'm back to having the Front Sight block the view.

I'm not pro shooter, but this is what I have noticed between my 2 AR's.

Found the 512 model at Sportsmansguide.com for $399, or $359 if you're a club member which I am. Plus if I use one of the many $10 coupons I have for them I could get that puppy for $349 + shipping. Plus sportsman offers the 4-pay option at no extra charge.

Just trying to decide if the 512 model is the one to go with. I do like the idea of having the one with the bullet drop compensation dots on it.

Or maybe I should just stick with the irons for now and spend my money on other things?

I have the 557 with bullet drop dots. The BDC dots kick in at 400m so unless you have shots planned for 400m and beyond they are a waste. Second I find that the dots blur together in bright light. FWIW GG&G sells the 512 for $409 with their QD mount and lens covers. I'm just not sure they have any in stock. The best price on the 557 was at ManVenture Outpost.

That's why I figger if you get from a reputable source like Overstock.com or Sportsmansguide.com with good return policies if their is something funky with it you can return it. And the likelihood of getting a bogus one from them is much less then from some unknown on Ebay.
