So ive heard the CCI # 400s which are regular small rifles are good as the benchrest ones.

Has anyone actually on calguns tested them? is it true?
Has anyone also tried any other brands? CCI, Federal, Winchester, Remington, magtech, wolf? any other brands? are they all just as good?

Ive been waiting for a while for CCI small rifle regular or benchrest.
The only primers Ive gotten so far is wolf in the last month.
I still have a small supply of CCI #41, #34 large rifle, regular and benchrest large rifle.

To add to this thread,

I got that info from http://www.6mmbr.com/223Rem.html

"Benchresters have shown a bias towards the Federal 205M (match), but in our informal testing, the CCI BR4s shot just as well as the Federals, while the CCIs delivered lower ES/SD with some powders. In fact, we've found that the "plain Jane" CCI 400s were closely matched with the much more expensive BR4s. Both can deliver good accuracy with low ES and SD. (Currently, at Powder Valley, CCI 400s cost $19.00 per thousand, while CCI BR4s cost $29.50 per thousand.) Some primers do seem to work better with particular powder/bullet combinations, so it's wise to do your own testing, and you may want to test CCI 400s vs. CCI BR4s head to head. You may find that the cheaper CCI 400s work just as well as the pricey BR4s in your gun. "

I've tested CCI large rifle against Federal match primers.

In my 6.5x284 using the exact same components and procedures the standard deviation went from 9 fps to 14 fps over 50 cartridges of each test group.

In that limited test it showed that the CCI LR primers are not as consistent as the match primers.

Even with the SD of 14 unless you are loading for long range match conditions you aren't going to see much difference with variations of 196 fps. Considering that most "match ammunition" will average SD of greater than 20 fps.

He uses it. And, many top class shooters use it. I have tested it myself and the results were impressive.

I've been told by many top shooters that they primarily use Wolf.

CCI Benchrest primers are better than regular ones.

Its hard to notice unless you have a rig capable of Sub MOA accuracy, but
they are.

BR4's ROCK!

I've noticed no difference in my rifle and load between 210's and 210m's. Wolf and WLRs have been just about the same as well. ES differences have been minimal across the board too, slight edge to the Wolf. Some primers are hotter than others so loads need to be adjusted accordingly. Winchester for example is a hot primer. Always around 20-30 fps faster with my main 308 load and RL15.

The best ones are the ones that are in stock. I used to prefer winchester primers, but now days I'm just happy to get any primers. They all go bang when you pull the trigger, so unless your reloading competition ammo, or 1000 yard prairie dog loads, I'd just take what you can get.

Federal 210M primers Rock too!

Now keep in mind, I have OCD and measure, weigh and check everything twice. YMMV

That is not true, in my personal experience.

BR version seems to be 1/2 the ES and SD vs the regular, with everything else kept constant.

In particular, CCI200 seems to be of similar performance as FED210;
While CCI BR2 seems to be of similar performance as FED210M.

this...

Flexible cartridges like .223 and .308 are easy to load for. It's almost hard NOT to find a powder/primer combo that won't work in a particular gun.

I just rebarreled my Service Rifle AR and it doesn't like Wolf primers... groups a lot better with CCI. My old barrel shot better with Wolf primers.. go figure.....

My Reminton 700VS(308) will shoot just about any LR primer with the same accuracy.

Well, luckily I ordered 5k of CCI # 400s from Natchez this morning finally, along with some reloader 15, some 1lb'ers of accurate, H380 and some other powder for my Garand loads.
now i can at least load some match ammo with something other than #41

I would have to get out my copy of Modern Reloading to be sure but don't some auto primer feed devices state clearly not to use Federal primers? Have not read recently but that's what I recall.

LEE says dont use Federal primers in the hand priming tool, they some how can blow while priming.

Actually, personal experience, #41 performs better than #400.... I think #41 is close to #450... so, ignites and burns better...

^ with what powder and what caliber?

can't just go blindly claiming that one primer is better than the other without quantifying things a little

how does the #450 "ignite and burn better"?

As I said personal experience**... YMMV.... do your own test.... :D

#450 is their magnum primer.

Anybody got any experience/input regarding remington 71/2(small) and remington 91/2(large)? I have tried some of the 91/2 for my .308 loads and so far, so good.

Haven't personally tried the remingtons, but many have had excellent results. This shortage has made many people try primers they otherwise wouldn't have. Most have had surprisingly good results.

I use 7.5s for .223, they work well with RL15. I haven't tried paring them with either Varget or H4895, CCI 400 already works great, so no need to mess around with it.
