View Full Version : lefty bolt-action hunters - what do you prefer? tikka? a-bolt?

Folks - I'm in the market for a bolt-action rifle -- probably chambered in 300 Winchester Magnum.

Thing is, I'm a lefty, and I would prefer a left-handed bolt-action, so that narrows the field substantially.

So - what are your thoughts? Value-wise, how does a Tikka T3 stack up to a Browning A-Bolt? How about Savage or Remington? Anything stand out about any of those four?

I really wish CZ would release a lefty something larger than 204 Ruger...

It's like taking home a date from the Miss USA pageant, all mentioned are great. I guess I would take the Savage, on the basis that I love top tang safeties. I have done some of my best field shooting with a Remington 700 BDL, but I can't compare any of these to the others, so I can't say they are better.

I've only used the Tikka in right hand version and it was a nice little rifle. a little too much plastic in the magazine parts, etc for my taste. Same as some of the Savages.

The good thing about the Savage and the Remingtons versus the Tikka and A Bolts is that the Savage and the Remingtons have a lot of aftermarket parts and support.

I have a Tikka T-3 L/H in 270 Winchester. Smoothest bolt action I've shot and I own several. I'm very happy with mine. It shoots MOA or better after I put a DNZ (Game Reaper) Rings and base on it.

I've been using a lefty A-Bolt .30-06 for 15 years and love it. It handles fast and has become a part of me.

I have a Tikka T3 in .308 L/H and I love it. It does have one of the smoothest bolts as FLIGHT762 stated, and the trigger breaks like glass as well. I would get another Tikka in a heartbeat. The Remington action is only smooth after some gunsmithing and probably a trigger job to make it shoot nice.

I hope this helps.
