Hey guys,
Can anyone identify this thing? At first looked to be Soviet, but maybe not. Bolt action.
Anyone?

French FRF-1 or 2 or somethingorother. Neat rifle showing just what can be accomplished when you start with a MAS 36 and think outside the box. Hopefully I will still be alive when they sell them as surplus 50 years after they are taken out of service.

HaHa! I read through that story but knew the guy was a fake from the very beginning of the article. Reminds of the wannabe character in "True Lies" they called "Carlos the Jackal".:p Too funny.

I said, ‘If you don’t put that camera down and give me the film, I’ll shoot you. I’ll kill you and get away with it. Because I don’t exist.’ ”
BAHAHAHAHAAAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA!!!!!!
Let me guess, his DD214 also burned in the fire at the archives....

The longer barrel on it makes a very handy pole for attaching a white flag.

Read up on the French Legionnaires. I'll wait here for you to pick your jaw back up to talk further.

Legionnaires are rarely French Nationals (at least that's how I remember it).
Anyway, if you can't make fun of the French, who can you ridicule? All the others have advocacy (victim) groups.

The French army has great stuff! Dropped once in soft sand. However the Legionnaires rifles are well used and have a tradition of kicking ***.

LOL at the Legionnaires. They wouldn't stand a chance against the SEALS, Rangers, hell even the Airbourne infantry can take em.
Who cares about the fact that they live in squallor it doesn't make em tougher. I mean common they are still French.
I would love to see how that gun holds up against anything with a Surgeon action.

Most of the Officers are French (High Ranks are all French) The rest is 50% French / 50% anything else.
Yep no advocacy groups for the French people! lol Could be worse...they could be French Canadian ! lol

Dude trust me, they have no more training than any of the U.S. special forces. There training or types of training is nothing that any soldier in the military can receive if they qualify for one of the military branches special units. They don't shoot any better, run farther, or have better tactics then any other U.S. military special unit.
I understand that there are many people out there who are favored to like them but that is their opinion. The weapons they use are sub standard compared to any U.S. military special unit. The FAMAS is basically junk when next to any modern military bullpup counterpart.
They used to be the misfit unit of the french regular army and spent 200 years making themselves into a elite military unit with many honorable campaigns to their names. But when compaired to any U.S. military special unit they don't stand out any different. They fought in every conflict and campaign of the last 200 years and stuck out against the Vietamese and several rogue factions in Africa. But again nothing that any special forces U.S. military unit hasn't been involved in. The only difference is how long the Legionnaires have been around compared to many of the said U.S. special forces.

They also don't have the same rules as our Special Forces do :). Read into it a bit more, the stuff that you can find will open your eyes a bit further. It is one thing for me, a history major to say they are pretty high speed, but it is another when an active member of the military like Stormfeather says it too.

Don't forget the French Nation FOUGHT for the Nazi's in WWII. And the most exercise those fair weather warriors get is skulking around and sinking greenpeace ships.

VICHY FRANCE =/= FRANCE. History fail.
Wasn't the nation of France supplying Germany and fighting Allied soldiers during the WWII?
I think you mean the FREE French forces and Charles De Gaulle =/= Vichy France, History FAIL. But, the Vichy Government had the resources of the French people and nation in supporting the Nazi's, Charles De Gaulle was a bum, begging for allied equipment and personel in England.
You familar with Operation Torch?

You are trying to argue semantics here. It could easily be said that the French nationals were the ones that fled to be able to recover and fight when necessary.

I think the rifles cool which is suppose to be the topic. But since were talking of the French I will quote Carls Jr on France;s stance. Dont be a chicken eat one.

The few thousand that fled were gonna defeat the Nazi's all by their lonesome? While back in France, they providing the Nazi's men and material? Seriously, you guys familiar with Operation Torch? The Allied operation to invade North Africa? What did the French do then? KILL ALLIED TROOPS LANDING ON THE BEACHES OF CASABLANCA. These units existed before the defeat of France and their choice on which side they were on is clear!

Apparently you are not. VICHY French troops manned the beaches in Africa (the Vichy were Frenchmen that agreed to assist the Germans....just in case you aren't familiar)
Free French troops, Resistance Fighters, and the general population simply were NOT cooperating with the Germans.
I suppose the forced conscription Polish Wehrmacht were happy to kill other Poles?

I am all for bashing the french for their limitless incompetence when it comes to global politics however, saying the french as a nation fought for the Nazi's is going way to far. The French nation regrouped and were there on D day to take back their country.

Alright, there is a line where I draw between just being a occupied territory and having to roll with it and being a colloborator/Axis Ally in WWII. Lets take Denmark for example, thousands of Danes joined the German Military, but I don't consider them colloborators/Axis Ally like I do, Italy, Romania or France (Vichy). The key difference being, that Denmark didn't create an army, under its own command structure, supported by Denmark, flying the Danish Flag to fight to advance the Axis cause. Once you create an military to support the Axis or knowing you will have to support the Axis, it expresses a level of national will that transcends just "being a occupied territory and having to roll with it". At that point you are an combatant and you've chosen your side. In Operation Torch, the French military forces (flying French Flag and under French control) were contacted about the landing, but not enough French officers were involved to successfully pull off the coup to take command of the North African French Forces. This alerted the French to imminent Allied landings and they prepared themselves for battle, while the US didn't do a perpartory bombardment to hopefully get a peaceful landing, which they didn't get. And you have to understand, during Nov 1942, Nazi Germany still looked pretty strong and you can clearly see the French were on fence on whether to throw in with the Allies or to stay with the Axis. I mean, they decided to scuttle the whole North African French Navy in port instead of throwing in with the Allies clearly knowing what the Allies mission was.
Second, the French Gov't officially surrendered to the Germans and what remained of unoccupied FRANCE and its colonial territories was given to the Vichy French Gov't. So am I wrong in saying FRANCE was run by the Vichy Government. I understand there was a Free French Movement in England, but if I wanted my mail on time in French Riveria during WWII, I'd probably talk to the Vichy Government, because the Vichy Government had authority and governmental power to regulate such things during the time period in France we are talking about, not the people in London.
