Hello Calguns!

As our first post here we would like to introduce the new batch of Calguns marked lowers. We have spoken to the powers that be and already arranged that $20 from each lower's sale will be donated to the CalGuns Foundation. We are producing two different markings, one with the state's outline and one with the Cal bear and star. Both are marked as "Multi-Cal" and the serial number prefix is OLL. They are being made in the same serial number range. We'll swtich between the markings based on customer demand, but we have about 100 of each at the moment.

(Please note that the lighting here in the shop was bad when we took these photos, so we used flashlights to highlight the markings for the photos. These lowers are all Milspec type III hard anodized with uniform black finish.)

Without further adieu:

If anyone else is in the Santa Clarita Valley and is interested in these - let me know. I haven't spoken to anyone w/ an FFL yet but I'd like to find someone in the area to get one (or two) of these from. If there are multiple orders, I'm guessing it will be easier to convince someone to do the work to get them.

Under $200.00 was what we wanted. Reality being what it is, $179.95 is as low as we could go. Remember $20.00 goes to the Calguns Foundation out of Kaiser Defenses' pocket, and we can do nothing about tax or DROS. By buying one of these lowers you not only get a unique, quality product, you are supporting the cause that fights for your ability to do so.

Maybe you missed the point of the whole project.......these are to benefit the Calguns Foundation with each purchase and to promote the site and everything this community does.

It's a California company representing the hard work that this group has put forth to allow us all to be able to have these in this state.

Its not just another lower.;)

I don't normally look at "fun" stuff on my work computer but this morning was different. First thing I saw was this post. My station is fairly close to Kaiser, I called and a few minutes later I stopped in. I'll be picking up my Bear Star lower when I get back in town. I've had the itch to build a gun, this offer was too good a deal to pass on...good for me and good for CalGuns.

I especially like the fact that the bear and/or state outline sort of fly in the face of the DOJ. HA.

EDIT: Forgot to add that these lowers look as good in real life as they do in the pictures. The folks at KD are good to deal with and I'll probably go there again when the itch to build comes back.

You could easily do it yourself for under $5.00 using a two colors of paint (red/white). How to Color Fill. (http://www.calguns.net/calgunforum/showpost.php?p=2387077&postcount=25) I'll take some updated pics of the calguns lowers color filled once I get mine.

Remember you can order them direct from Kaiser, but then you will have to pay a transfer fee to your local dealer. If you can, see about getting your local dealer to order them instead at the dealer price and then they can make the money instead of running a transfer fee. Now depending on your dealer, they might make more on the transfer!

That $179 and change price is pretty darn good. The lower panic is definitely over. If that $179 is too steep, then just buy a cheaper lower somewhere else. Some people just don't understand fund raising.

Well said! ^

Everyone needs to remember how much this site and the foundation does for our gun rights.
Heck, how many of us have bought or sold a gun using the exchange? at no cost to you. The endless amount of info and advice on this site is priceless, yet costs us nothing.

These are high quality lowers at a VERY reasonable price. With $20.00 going straight to the foundation.

I will be buying 2 of these, as soon as JK Supply gets them in, and to put my money where my mouth is, I will be matching the $40.00 donation using the link at the bottom of 10%'s sig, as soon as I post this reply.
I encourage you all to do the same!

Update: Donation Made - Use this link: http://www.calguns.net/calgunforum/showthread.php?t=108030
I used the Paypal option (I found this very funny considering Paypals views/stand on Guns) but it was quick and saved a stamp. There is also a mailing address if you prefer that route. Go do it guys!

I've been lurking these forums for quite some time now and just registered to say that I plan to buy one of these! Love them. Are they available now, or will it be a bit before they are created?

EDIT it seems as if I didn't read the thread title correctly. I will be heading over to the local gun store tomorrow to talk about getting one!

I've been a long time lurker of calguns, doing my research on trying to make my first OLL build but after seeing this post, I decided to make my move from being a lurker to a contributor. Considering the receivers look beautiful/unique and I get to support a local San Diego company and at the same time get to donate to Calguns for all the great information, I thought this was an omen to start my first build. So I called Rob up today and went to visit KD and got to see these receivers in person (as well as some other things at the shop :whistling:) I decided to pick up a Bear receiver and now I get to join the 10 day support group as I wait :(...but Rob was a great guy to deal with and made the process straight forward with great customer service...i highly recommend everyone to jump on this deal to support a great company helping provide really cool OLL's but at the same time, support a great website :cheers2:

They're not a "retail store" as you would think and not necessarily open to the public but more of a machine shop. If you Google "Kaiser Defense" their address comes up but it'll be best to call Rob before you visit to make sure he's there since they don't have a traditional store front/signs. When I got to the address, the front door was caged/locked and it can be confusing on how to enter since I had to enter through the back of the shop...

While we (Kaiser Defense) don't have a tradional "Storefront", we have an office where we can do 4473's, DROS, and any other required paperwork to sell you an OLL. Please call me (619-692-3300) before coming down. It is a little tricky getting here the first time, so I like to be here to guide you in after you get lost.:) We do have some projects on the drawing board, but I don't like to discuss them in great detail before they are truly available. I want all local Southern Californians to make Kaiser Defense your first stop when looking at buying an OLL.

I'm more than happy to donate to the fund, and I love the bear and state part of the lower(s), but I'm just not all that excited to have a .net on my firearm. Testors Enamel. I originally got the idea from AR15Armory.com (http://www.ar15armory.com/forums/Painting-rollmarks-t21008.html) but basically it goes like this:
Buy some little bottles of Testors from Michaels or your favorite friendly craft store. Buy a itty bitty brush to go with it.
Make sure no grease is on the lower and paint/fill in those roll marks.
Let dry maybe 5-10 minutes then use a few drops of CLP on a patch to clean up all of the paint that went outside of the lines or out of the roll marks. Check out the link for some in depth explanation. I don't remember the colors off the top of my head but if anyone is interested I can check when I get home.

Due date is 8/1, I'm still on the fence though

179 lower + sales tax + $25 DROS = roughly $220.55 OTD if my calculations are correct with 9.25 sales tax

Be a longer wait for the lower though... :(

Heads up, BAGV group buy thread I found for all you SF/peninsula shooters

http://www.calguns.net/calgunforum/showthread.php?t=204845

Due date is 8/1, I'm still on the fence though

179 lower + sales tax + $25 DROS = roughly $220.55 OTD if my calculations are correct with 9.25 sales tax

Be a longer wait for the lower though... :(
Ggetting it yourself means you will also have to add on transfer fees, which is another 60-100 bucks.

Or you could just drive out to J&R in Livermore and start your paperwork right away and actually look at them paying the same price as the group buy. They have them in stock, just there all the time. Livermore is probably quite a drive for some of you, but friendly guys at the shop and worth the drive I think!

is there anyway i could get a complete lower????

not 21 and want to start that ar build!!!

Kaiser Defense
07-24-2009, 7:15 AM
The easiest part of building an AR is building up the stripped lower. All you need to do that is a lower parts kit and a stock, buffer tube, buffer and spring. Pretty easy. You only need to be 18 or over to buy a lower whether it is complete or stripped since this is going to be a long gun.

I think that is incorrect. If you are under 21, you can purchase a complete rifle. A stripped lower is considered an "other" on the 4473, and can be assembled as either a rifle or pistol. If the "other" can be assembled into a "readily concealable" (pistol) configuration, you must be at least 21 years old to purchase.

Same rule applies to shotguns. At 18 you can buy a shotgun, but if that same shotgun comes with a pistol grip only (readily concealable), you must be 21 years old to purchase.

Hopes this helps,
Rob

KD is correct, they changed the DROS form back in OCT or NOV 2008 IIRC... You can purchase a complete lower however, it just takes out the fun of building and knowing your rifle :)

That's inaccurate.

It has ALWAYS been against the law to sell anything but a rifle or shotgun (must have a buttstock) to anyone under the age of 21.

The BATFE was not really enforcing this, however, and stripped AR lowers were being sold to those under 18 as "long guns", when legally they aren't.

Further muddying the issue is California's DROS process which only recognizes handguns or long guns.

The BATFE changed the 4473 to "clarify" the issue, but CA's DROS is still the same and still causes confusion.

Its not a straw purchase if someone else buys it DROS it, builds it, then PPT it back to him. it would be a straw purchase if someone DROSed it then just gave it to him.

One of the questions on form 4473 is “I am the buyer of this firearm”

Ezekiel2000
07-28-2009, 6:10 AM
Person 1 buying a lower, building it complete then selling it to person 2 through another FFL transfer is NOT a straw purchase.

The original buyer of the lower would answer "Yes" to being the buyer of the firearm. That is an honest answer since they are paying for it, and will have possession of it the entire time the lower is being built up. Once the lower has been built they will take the complete lower to a FFL to transfer to another buyer who will again honestly answer "Yes" to being the buyer.

Straw Purchase is when the purchaser listed on the 4473 is not the real user of the gun...as in a girlfriend buying a handgun for her felon boyfriend. This thread (http://www.calguns.net/calgunforum/showthread.php?t=172086) has some good discussion around the topic, one of the most pertinent answers in that thread, from what should be a trusted source, says this:
It is only a straw purchase when the final recipient is prohibited or otherwise wouldn't have been able to pass the NICS/DROS.

I recently read a Federal decision on it but I don't remember the cite. I'm sure it can be found on guninfo.

Its all about intent. the Fbi agent in texas that was arrested for dealing w/o a license was selling guns before before they were in his possession, granted he did it many times before he was brought in.

buying a gun with intent to sell it as soon as you take possession of the item seems like a little shaky to me, but you probably wouldn't get noticed unless you did it frequently though......

I guess thats just my interpretation which could be wrong.

ETA: after reading that thread it seems that it wouldn't be a straw purchase but could fall under federal private sales regulation

DIY! It's trivial to do w/ a few $ of Testers enamel paint from the hobby store. There's a thread around here somewhere w/ instructions (but seriously - you don't really need instructions - it's that simple).

If you use Gold ,Copper ,or any of the metalic colors be aware that they are a metallic flake paint. Not to bad on a Kaiser product,or Double Star which has a smooth polished surface,but a real pain on a Rock River or Spikes with a "textured" surface. {painted Kaiser shown below.Next up is a CGN lower}

Nope, no flaking, and you get to pick the colors you want. If I remember correctly the testors paint was $1.79 per bottle...so dirt cheap and you get to customize to your liking.
