I tried using a regular Dewey rod to clean the AK-47 and due to the level of the barrel vs. butt stock, it would bend the rod...what am I doing wrong? Use a Boresnake? Find a thinner rod? Muzzle to chamber?

Boresnake or cleaning it through the muzzle are both fine.

I cleaned mine for the first time a few weeks ago. Probably had a couple/few thousand rounds down the pipe before I took it apart. The piston is/was caked on with soot pretty good. Did the best I could, but it's still pretty cakey. Oh well, never had a malfunction.
