Question? If I were to host another build party or two at my shop in Santa Rosa, would any one be interested in chipping in to help buy a jig & or AK specific tools?

Definitely!

I'm assuming these would be the AK-builder tools?

Woody thanks for all your efforts and assistance at the last build. Since that build party I purchased a trigger assembly jig from AKbuilder (and two new flats, etc, etc!) that I will bring to help others with their builds at future events. After experiencing the build party and using other's tools I really think that there should be a organized way to compensate the host and fellow experienced builders, for the wear and tear, time, and investment into these very specialized tools. Not only woody but oldyeller, JamesY, Vepr67 and others were all very generous with their time. With a little input and help from these guys I am now the proud owner of a very nice CA compliant Romy G. This project would not have turned out near as nice as it did without the tools and experience some of these guys bring. Hope it happens.:) Oldyeller... still have some drill bits for ya!

I'll be selling my AK-builder flat bending jig soon. I'll sell it cheap to the cause.
It's bent over 40 flats, maybe as many as 50 and it's nearing the end of it's service life. The welds need to be patched up and it'll be good for at least another 10-15.

The real problem is the top rail stamper bar is getting warped, so it's nessisary to press it back and forth twice. I'm sure that Curtis would sell just that part if you asked nicely.

I have a few random AK tools like a top rail scribe. I can also Bring Duracoat/compressor and spray gun for those that want duracoat as a finish alternative.

I'm sure lots of people would be willing to bring what they have to help out...

Otherwise...I would chip in if need be to get things started.

I have a flat bender that has only been used 5 times. It's like brand new. If it is needed for the build party, let me know>

Just wondering, how much would we need to chip in?

I live near Santa Rosa and have been following the AK build party threads. I have fabrication skills, a good selection of non AK dedicated tools and would like to join in the fun.

There is so much information out there that it is difficult to filter to a good choice for the parts. Please recomend a quality AK parts kit/demilled rifle/model and a supplier.

Thanks

PS. I am happy to buy AK specific tool(s) for the group to use at the get-together.

Romanian Guard ("Romy G") kits seem to be the most popular. I've been told it's because they are the cheapest kits without sacrificing quality.

Your best bet is finding a good deal on the AK Files forums or AR-15 forums. New ones pop up every day.

I'm in Santa Rosa and would chip in for equipment, etc. I hadn't intended to tackle an AK project this year, but I'd be nuts to miss out on the opportunity of a build party here!

Almost forgot. If you don't want to bother with de-milling your rear, fixed stock trunion, Allied Armament has new US made, billet rear trunions for $15 ea.

Just wondering, how much would we need to chip in?

My thought was, it would be nice if we could collect enough for the bending jig. I think they are about $220? I have a barrel removal jig & barrel install jig. I'm working on make some of the other jigs also.
I was thinking I would sweeten the deal for anyone who puts up $50 or more, I'd let you have private access to the shop for 5 or 6 hours. That should be enough time to complete a build without all the distractions. I'm just throwing some ideas out there to see if anything sticks. No big deal eather way.

I would be more than happy to throw up $50 if it means I get my kit built into a rifle.

Should we start throwing out some dates to make sure people can mark their calendars?

I'm free the first half of July and the last half of August.

I'm in for $50+ also. The jig that does a good job with the top rails looks like it is $295:

Thanks for the links. I am ordering flats and rivets from AK Builder and a parts gun from Apex.

How do we do the heat treating? :82:

I'm in depending on the date. Can donate $20 towards the bender, although I do not need rails bent. Need to have rails welded in and heat treat the receivers

Can bring a 20 ton press and barrel pin tool and other hand tools.

Hey guys, I made a useful poll to see when everyone is free:

http://www.doodle.com/xkr6fem4x7pxcq9s

Just enter your username on the left and check off the dates you're free.

I only did the weekends for the next two months but if more people would like to do it on a weekday I'll change it.

I would DEFINATELY be interested in a flat building party in SR. I live in Rincon Valley and have missed the last couple one because I had spent all my allotted gun money on getting my AR completed. I am changing jobs so I dont know when I would be free but I would imagine weekends? I am willing to throw down on tools, jigs etc and would love to meet some local fellow Calguners.

I can bring the spot welder, and I have a jig that does tapco flats just fine. Also have park stuff. Would be nice to get a deluxe AK builder flat jig though.

That's the jig I have and the one I'm selling... It's a bit worn. I just had the fracturing welds MIG'ed up so the jig is good. The top rail stamping bar is fatigued though, and it requires pressing on it back and forth twice for good measure.
