View Full Version : 308 Turkish Mauser
I like the Mauser military barrel contour and would like to have a Mauser in 308, do the Turkish Masers or the Yugo, have actions that are suitable and safe for such a conversion?
Thanks

I am not sure of the K model I guess I am not as up on them as I thought, the box that it came in states 1938 and on top of the receiver next to the crest date stamped 1943

The Turkish mauser is not a K Model. K is for Karabiner which means Carbine. The Turkish M1938 is a full length Mauser using either a small ring action, or a large ring-small shank design.
The Yugo M48 and M24/47 are carbine lengths and use a large ring intermediate action receiver (slightly shorter than the german design).
I have no experience with adapting these models for .308, but I would have thought a) with the Turkish M38, the availability of small ring barrels would be more limited than the large ring type. As for receiver strength I couldn't tell you.
The Yugo intermediate receiver may present a different problem if you plan on mounting a scope due to the shorter action, as a standard Mauser scope mount may not work.
I have an Israeli FN Mauser chambered in 7.62 NATO which I plan on putting a new .308 barrel onto, since the bolt/ extractor is already set up for .308, it makes for an easier conversion.
Is your 308 Israli one of fthe ones offered by Century Arms?

Yes, they tend to be on the rough side though.
