I moved Back to PRK in jan 2001 from AZ , if i were to have brought back a Kimber Ultra that was purchased while a resident of AZ would i need to be concerned about any legalities now ?

According to what I know you should be fine. The instructions for new residents does not say anything about having to worry whether or not your gun is on the "safe" gun list.
http://ag.ca.gov/firearms/ab991.php

The law states simply that:
"No handgun may be manufactured or sold to the public in California unless it is of a make and model that has passed required safety and functionality tests and is approved for publication in the Department of Justice’s official list of handguns certified as safe for sale in California. Any person who manufactures, imports into the state for sale, sells, gives, or lends an unsafe handgun is guilty of a misdemeanor. (Penal Code 12125.)"
http://ag.ca.gov/firearms/forms/pdf/Cfl2007.pdf
So as long as it is for personal use and you have no intentions to sell it you should be fine.

Nicely phrased - you've been reading. :)

If you were to have moved here with such a weapon in 2001, California would have expected you to file this form (http://ag.ca.gov/firearms/forms/pdf/ab991frm.pdf) and send it with $19 for that handgun.

If that were to be the case, one could still file that form in 2009 with no penalty; the law says no foul if the way CA learns that one did not file the form on time is by filing the form.
