I have an Enfield No1 MK3 .303, I bought it cash and carry from Turners in 1996. Looking at the side of the gun its stamed 1965. Is this the year? Is it still cash and carry or no? Thanks for the help. Does anyone know how much it would be worth/ball park. Alll the serial numbers match and it was imported by CAI in Virginia. Needs work refinishing the wood and some metal but it is not a beater.:banghead::banghead:

Worth somewhere around $50 to $200, if you can find a buyer.

I don't think that Enfields were still being manufactured in 1965... especially No. 1 models. That might be an import date, but I think the gun itself is over 50 years old, and thus should be OK for a face-to-face cash transaction.

Exactly where is 1965 stamped? What else is stamped nearby? Pictures might help.

wasn't India making the #1 Enfield pattern into the 60's?

Hmm, I wasn't aware of that. If they were, then that makes it even harder to figure out whether a particular rifle qualifies under CA's 50 year old long-gun category. :(

To the original poster: With pictures of the "1965" stamping and other markings, somebody here might be able to figure out whether it's a manufacturing date, import date, or something else entirely. You might try asking over in the Curio and Relic forum here, too, if you haven't already.

India was making MK1 A2 in 7.62X51 NATO from 1962-1968. I think they are still considered a c&r.

They would still be C&R as long as they're bolt-action military rifles, but the C&R classification no longer is enough in CA to allow transfers without going through an FFL. CA requires the gun to be 50 years old minimum. So, one of those 1960's Enfields would be a C&R rifle, but it would need to transfer through an FFL.

Ill post pick tomorrow and thanks for the help. As for the date I was thinking it should be older than that also.
