The liberal media is at it again, putting their spin on guns and ammo sales. In a reference to AB962, even my wife got caught up in the spin. She asked, "Why does anyone need more than 50 rounds per month?"

I walked over to a shelf and picked up an empty CCI Mini Mag box I like to keep stuff in. It's plastic, has a sliding lid. You know the kind. "If that law passes, this would be illegal to sell in California. This was 100 rounds."

"Oh. I didn't know what 50 rounds was. They make it sound like a lot," says the wife.

If the author had incorrectly used "50 bullets" like they usually do, nobody would be confused. But when they use "rounds," the average person is going to think it's a lot more than it actually is because why would anyone in their right mind want to limit sales to 50 "bullets" per month. In a "shoot 'em up" movie, they'd go through 50 "bullets" in about 5 seconds.

I'm glad my wife brought this up. It reminded me to send another flurry of emails to the State Senate Public Safety Committee.

edit: And I really, REALLY doubt using the correct word "rounds" rather than "bullets" was some liberal agenda to try and play it off as being insignificant. The fact that it even gets mentioned is a plus, especially when you consider that the author said nothing of his own liberal opinion about it.

Selling or buying more than 50 rounds wouldn't be illegal. The seller, wally world, big 5, etc would just need another state license. People would still be able to buy up as much ammo as they could find. It just requires people who sell more than 50 rounds to be licensed along with a bunch of new paper work and fingerprinting for buyers. Be sure to keep up the e-mails.

The pertinent staff over at the LA Times know exactly what is triggering gun sales. It's just that Steve Lopez and friends are in love with Obama. This piece is an attempt to marginalize the 2nd Amendment through satire.

I see your point. But the way I read this, I couldn't give my kids the box of Mini Mags unless I become a "handgun ammunition vendor" since my kids can't buy the ammo themselves. (Under 18 years old.) I guess I could split the box in two and give each one 50 rounds, but I can't remember a time my kid shot just 50 rounds and called it a day.

"AB962 would make it a crime to privately transfer more than 50 rounds of ammunition per month, even between family and friends, unless you are registered as a “handgun ammunition vendor” in the Department of Justice’s database."
