Concealed weapons permit holder stops would-be robbers
June 17th, 2009 @ 1:26pm
MIDVALE -- A man with a concealed weapons permit stopped two would-be Midvale robbers from making off with his friend's stuff.

Police say the men were coming home from an errand around 7 a.m. Wednesday morning when they spotted the suspects with their things. The suspects took off on foot.

One of the men being robbed grabbed a gun from his truck and started running after them.

Midvale police Detective Sgt. John Salazar said, "Grabs a loaded .40-caliber handgun and chases with the gun, shooting rounds either into the air or into the ground as they were chasing."

The gunfire stopped the suspects dead in their tracks. The men held the robbers at gunpoint until police arrived and arrested them.

No one was hurt.

Sounds like a negligent discharge case brewing to me. Glad the robbers didn't get away though. It's just a shame that I've gotten to the point where I start thinking legal before I think virtue.

Firing a warning shot across the bow is a time honored attention getter. Nothing wrong with it if done safely. I would not do it in California though.

i dont know if it was smart to chase the robbers and discharging his pistol. because the robbers might take that real personal and come back with firearms of their own. :25::iamwithstupid:

Obviously, this did not happen in Kalifornia. If it did, the man firing the shots would be in jail, and the criminals would be free.

PRK...

Am I the only person who is tired of these news stations' websites that don't say what city or region they're in? I had to check their weather to know they were in Salt Lake, UT. Sorry, "Midvale" didn't show up on my radar.

That was in Utah. In CA here they may have been charged. You don't shoot/shoot at someone for a property crime and you especially don't chase them and shoot at them if they're fleeing.

That was in Utah. In CA here they may have been charged. It's illegal to shoot at someone for a property crime and you especially don't chase them and shoot at them if they're fleeing unless you're a police officer.

Edited to truly reflect CA.
