I want some help with deciding what grips to put on my first 1911. I'm not a big fan of Cocobolo, so throw that out. Also, does anyone have firsthand experience with VZ's Alien grips? Anyways, suggest something in the $50-80 range. Post pics! Thanks!

Here it is:

Ive had G10 grips made by Larry Davidson. Nice and durable.

I think that black Alumagrips would look good with your gun, given its black frame and stainless slide. I have them on my Colt Defender. They adhere to my hand very well without sharp checkering.

I have the VZ Aliens. I like em, but they are a bit on the harsh side.

It may just be too trendy, but a set of Nills would really sweeten that gun up. Doesn't meet the price range but you would be really proud of that gun. :D

...or Rocogrips for cheaper. I think they make em' for 1911s as well.

I have a pair of the original Simonich/Strider Gunner Grips. I hear the new ones are just as good.

I've also had the Davidson Snake Skin grips as well.

I have the VZ aliens on my Kimber, they are a bit on the rough side, but there is no denying that the firearm will not fall out of your hand no matter how sweaty it may be

VZ 100%.

I have Gators on several 1911's, Operators on a Kimber, and one set of slim's on my Novak HP.

Is that an actual photo of your 1911? Are the grips on it stock?

If so, what's wrong with them? Those look like they'd do the trick.

I have the slim versions of VZ Double Diamonds and Davidson Lizards. I prefer the VZ's simply because the Lizards are pretty aggressive, similar to my dislike of 20lpi frontstrap checkering. I'll throw some pix up later.

Beautiful GSR man! I'm in the process of getting the Nitron GSR right now. I personally always like the way the rosewood grips looked on the 1911.

I really like the feel of VZs and I bet the gray 2-tones would look smashing, blending the two colors.

Those are the exact ones that I have, lol!, and I love them. Not too rough (BF has the VZ Alien grips, they tear my hands up after a while) but certainly grippy enough.

So +1 for VZ grips.

Not an actual photo, but it is identical. Nothing at all wrong with them, I just thought a might want to add a little contrast to it.

Yeah, congrats! It's funny, I can't find anything about the gun. I can find Stainless XO's, Nitron XO's, but nothing on Nitron frame with Stainless Slide XO's.

That's what I've been leaning toward, though for the last couple days I have been looking at some nice wood grips-- in particular, I am starting to gravitate toward red and reddish orange burled wood grips.

If you want something somewhere between traditional and modern, how 'bout a set of Ahrends in silver and black Dymondwood?

I, for one, do NOT like smooth sided grips. Even with good front and backstrap texturing the gun can be less than ideally held.

i think those are only good for a trophy gun...as it won't perform as well as others...but they do look nice...

Like Angie said, I have the VZ Aliens. They are about as aggressive as you can go (in my opinion) without needing gloves. Plus, they look wicked cool.

I've also got another pair of VZ grips, the gators, for my 10mm 1911 that will be here eventually.

And I've got a pair of the VZ double-diamonds on my RIA USGI 1911. They look very traditional, but modern materials.

You just can't go wrong with VZ's. I would spend the extra cash and go for the G10 material on whichever grips you get from them.

How about stating if you want real grips, or trophy grips? I am confused if this is a real question or an arts questions: "do this grips my my ***** (or slide) look fat?"

You want something that makes it look perty as it is for show, or this a shooting gun that want something attractive, but you this will be your go to, so functionality is first?

If its the first, I am sure you can get one of these bling specialist that do all the stars phones to stick all sorts of rhinestones and bobbles on a pretty color backdrop. Kinda like Patton on people sticking mother of pearl grips on...

If its the latter - find a few friends with 1911 and see how theirs FEELS to YOU. And if a maker has em for 1911s, they probably have them for others, so you can see in general whether you like the texture and applictaion and then try some on a 1911.

a 1911 frame? Odds are some one on here in your local area already has them on there 1911, so you can pics to se if they look cool enough, or you could buy some rounds and see how they actually work - all depending on what you have guns around for (i.e.: show/use)
