He starts with an alloy framed subcompact, bobs the hammer and the grip safety tang. Installs the Cylinder and Slide shop's Fast acton lockwork. The FA parts let you carry hammer down, saving .4" of OAL. When you disengage the safety, the hammer is flung back to its fully cocked position. He fits a Safari alloy grip safety, slashs the top rear of the slide like the Detonics, rounds the corners of the slide like the Clark Custom guns "meltdown". Result is a 20 oz, 6.3" long 1911, same size and wt as a smith 5 shot .38 snub. If you like, he can move the mag-catch to the bottom front of the frame. That lets you undercut the bottom rear of the trigger guard a lot, like the Firestar. That lets you get your grip 3/8" higher on the gun, which of course helps recoil control. If you need a speed-reload, you need a lot more than a pistol, much less a pocket pistol. Therefore, it's more important to have better control of the 7 rds that you have on tap. The High Standard Military Citation sort of mag catch is still faster to reload than a revolver.

if you can't do a yahoo search for SecurityArms.com and for a Detonics, and if you don't know what a subcompact 1911 looks like, a pic would be lost on you, anyway. Anybody can do this sort of work themselves, unless they can't even tie their own shoes.

Lighten up Leswift. Talking about a new gun without pictures will elicit the same lighthearted reply on just about all gun forums.

It's just the way things are.

Gunkid usually shows up here yearly; last time he went by the name of 'eighteen'. I sense a resemblace, but a little too early to tell. http://calguns.net/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_biggrin.gif

I'm fifty, I've owned over 100 guns, have fired 1/4 million rds, smithed scores of guns, cast and loaded over 125,000 rds, taken hundreds of animals with ccw pistols, ccw'd for 20+ years.

I took a large scary rat with one of those NAA belt buckle .22 mags once. Didn't even have to reload... http://calguns.net/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_biggrin.gif

Is that the same as taking an animal with a CCW?

Isn't this the part where you tell us about your Navy Seal/Delta Force experience?

The following quote seems appropriate for this thread:If you find yourself in a hole, the first thing to do is stop diggin'.

O.K. boys leave it alone.

I am still laughing about the big scary rat! I thought those NAA pistols were for show!

.22 mag = bad news for rats

but seriously folks, here are some pretty neat pics from T. Tussey about the above conversion (not that it matters much to us CA folks 'cause a lightweight 1911 is about as available as a sh*tless dog)
