There is a FAL for sale in the Private Firearms for sale section. He has listed a thumbhole stock that has been filled in (by a pro). In addition he says (This will allow you to use your pre-ban mags)
I have a pre ban L1A1- if I change to this style of stock- will my rifle be "street legal" to use standard pre ban magazines or is it legal to use them now (is there a grandfather clause?)

If you have a pre CA AW ban rifle and registered it as an assault rifle, then you can use detach. mags of any capacity you want including your preban high caps. If you happen to have an unregistered AW, but it's not a named AW, you can either lock in a 10 round mag and have other prohibited AW features. If you attach the filled in stock and have no other prohibited AW feature you can use any cap. detach. mags. A thumbhole stock is a CA AW feature. By filling in the hole you elimimate that feature.

Yes, what he said.

Thanks to both of you. I'll probably still leave it in the safe. but it's good to know I'm legal. :)
