My first Shotgun, just plain basic 12GA, with the heat shield installed. I got it from Big 5 a few weeks ago. Haven't had time to shoot it yet. Here are some pictures:

Thanks. Heat shield is made by Tac Star, and it's metal too. From eBay.

I didn't get the great discount like other members paid, so I paid $299+Tax & DROS. But I still buy it because of the good reviews.

Nice, I am debating between this and the usual 870/500 for my next purchase. My local big 5 didn't have it in stock so I have not been able to handle it yet. Let us know how she shoots! :D

just curious....do you find the buttstock "rough"? I did a session of buckshot (60 rounds) and by the end of the session...i had a nickel size bruise on the right side of my cheek.

I am trying to find the 199 interstate hawk! How do you guys get em' i want one so bad. But no Big 5's ever have them.... Jeesh... They don't even let me put it on reserve. They just say call every so and so day...

It seems many vendors dont have them in stock right now including Gallery of Guns (where I got mine), Big5, and even BudsGunShop. Just keep checking and get lucky...just like those BCM uppers.

hmmnn so I found one but the Big 5 I called said they wouldn't honor the sale price. Guess I am gonna have to wait it out to go on sale then..

At $200 it is a great gun but for $300 it wouldn't make sense to pick one up at that price.

Anybody heard when they might go back on sale? The Big 5 guys don't seem to know when..

You need to physically go down there and say, "isn't this on sale?" And then ask for the manager...he will usually look it up and give you the sale price.

Gotcha gotta drive over the hill then for it. What has been your guys experience - they go on sale every 6 months or so?

Also a Big 5 salesperson said they don't transfer firearms between stores anymore so you really do have to drive around a little bit.

$185 shipped from Buds, so probably around $250 OTD depending on the transfer fee. I'm looking at this one too :43:

Yeah I saw that.. it is awfully tempting.

Let's see what Big 5 does this next month perhaps..

I dunno it might be easier to just go with Bud's.
They seem like a pretty solid business there.

Does anybody have any first hand experience with them?

Wow, I haven't seen those in stock at Bud's all year! The tide is turning.

Just do what others have suggested and ask for the manager. Tell them the sale price is $199 - if they won't give it to you, go to another Big5. The one in Mira Mesa here in SD will always transfer guns from other stores if necessary.

Now it says $500..

Anyways come on Big 5! I may have to drive over the hill and speak to a manager.. They didn't have any in Capitola or Watsonville as of yesterday.

Capt Jack

They fixed the prices. It must have been a bug as I noticed alot of mis-priced guns on Buds last night! They had H&R single shots for $1300!

Take another look!

I have one, and like it a lot. Here's how I got mine...

Checked a few SoCal Big5s and they were all oos, so I called their corporate office and asked to speak with the firearm department. When they came on the line I asked if they could transfer a Hawk 982 to my local Big5 - no problem. Then I asked if they could match their last sale price of $199 - again no problem. About a week later I recvd a phone call to come into the local Big5 and buy my Hawk.

I've put a few boxes of various shells through it, no probs, shoots nice. I did replace a few screws on the ghost sight with cap screws, but otherwise haven't modded it at all.

I have played with the Hawk next to a rem 870, I like the Hawk more. The action is more positive, and the receiver feels heftier, and the trigger guard is metal. Some may like the Remington metal finish a bit more, the Hawk's isn't quite as smooth, but it is more matte. People can say that the Remington is better day and night - I say prove it.

i just dros'd one. so should any 870 furniture fit on these? or will i need to mod it, i'm thinking one of those 870 riot gun stocks

Any other 982 owners experience issues with federal ammo? Several Misfires with both slugs and buckshot, 2.75 and 3 inch. Hard primers? Weak fp spring? Shot 25rds of some old peters bird shot w/o issue, so I'm thinking it might be the ammo.

Got mine back in Jan 2010 for $199 + tax + dros and some 00 bucks like $250 out the door. Mine would not reload, it shoots but shells stuck in mag tube, so I brought it back to exchage for a new one, they have it in stock but now is $299. My buddy bought one at the same time as me and his works fine!! So another 10days for me. +1 for Big5

Good deal, are you gonna do it (duracoat) yourself? Where are you located? If you are local, I may do it too. I was thinking about this OD green idea, let me know.

I got mine and found it kinda difficult to cram in more rounds while holding SG in the "ready" position. Upon inspection the shells were either pushing up to far and snagging on the mag opening lip just below the bolt, or dragging on the bottom lip area shaving plastic from the hulls.

Pulled out my 20 year old and 55yo 870's to compare. They were butter smooth of course. :D

I ended up deburring the opening area around the mag tube opening and rough polishing the mag catch springs. WOW! Feels like the 20yo 870 now in reloading.

Just something to think about when you have your guns apart for painting. :)

These are on sale again at Big 5 for $199. It seems like a well built gun; points real easy. Also seems an inch or two shorter than the Mossberg 500.

How is everyone liking theirs so far?

i got mine in november of last year and im very happy with it. 500 rounds threw it and my only problem was me not pushing the shells all the way to the catch at first (this was my first shotgun). great gun for the money.

Was on sale again for Labor Day. I have been looking for a good beater HD SG for a few months. The lowest price I could find was for a maverick at $230, Mossberg 500 $279, 870 $319. Needless to say when I saw this in the ad at big 5 I hurriedly did some research and snatched it up. It was $253 out the door with dros and a cable lock. I' am very happy with the purchase and with the people at Big 5. they are always helpful and pleasant and knowledgeable. +1 for the thread.
