I'm stocking up ammo for my build, and Walmart sells $10 .223 remingtons, are these considered "good/decent" ammo? Should I stock up on this?

Its decent ammo. I'm assuming that your talking about the 55gr green/wht box? I dont know if I would stock up on it though. Depending on how much you are going to buy, you can get it quite a bit cheaper if you buy it in bulk. Maybe 10 cents a round cheaper or so.

yeah it is that green white box Remington. What brand would you recommend for me to stock up on as my private stash, my shtf stash?

Wow, that stuff costs $10/box now? It used to be only $8-something at my local Sprawly. That's for 20 rounds. I haven't seen any on the shelves for months though. As far as quality, it shoots about 2 MOA out of my rifle. Every once in awhile I'd come across a box that would shoot 1 MOA, but not often.
They HAVE had a little Federal .223 55 grain on the shelves recently, only a few boxes at a time, 100 rounds for ~$40. It shoots about the same as the Remington. In the future I will probably buy the Federal instead of the Remington, only because I've heard the brass is better. (I also reload).
Whatever you buy, save your brass.

It's the same price at Bass Pro in Manteca. $10 for 20 rounds of green and white boxed Remington UMC .223 ammo.

butttt what ammo is good? I never shot my AR yet, it's still in the build, so I have no knowledge on ammo :(

I'm assuming your rifle is chambered in 5.56. In case you didn't know you can fire .223 in a gun marked 5.56 but firing 5.56 in a chamber marked .223 can lead to problems.
Federal M193 Ball is great bulk ammo.
SS109 / M855 is a 62 grain bullet with a slightly better ballistic coefficient.
Centurion is cheap but has a reputation for being a little anemic. IIRC -200fps
PMC Bronze and Remington UMC are both decent, nothing exceptional.
Wolf is cheap but shooter beware.
Black Hills Match is awesome, but expensive.
I'd say hold off on buying ammo from wally world and lurk the commercial deals section of the forums. Wait for a good deal to come up and buy 500rds of something quality.
My personal experiences with Remington UMC were not positive. I kept getting failure to feeds for some reason. I loaded federal M193 into the same mags and haven't had a failure to feed since. So who knows?

Wow, I dont think thei that cheap, Wolf selling 4 dollars per 20 rds is still 20 cents. Damn, i need to find that dead your talking about! Its saving more then my reloads! :)
But for OP, it depends on your gun if it like the ammo or not. I wouldnt stock up until I actually have my gun to test them. Identical guns can like diffrent ammo. Some may say this brand sucks so dont ever shoot it, but that brand might be the one that my gun can get 1 MOA compared to their 4 MOA. Really, wait until you get your gun (if your going to accuracy) then buy a bunch of diffrent makers and shoot them through your gun. Pick the best one and then buy them in bulk.
My gun shoots great with UltraMax, but my brothers identical gun shoots crappy with the same batch of ammo.

I'm beginning to wonder about Remington Ammo that Wally sells.
I've been shooting for a couple of days now.... and noticed a headspacing
issue when running Rem 30.06 ammo. 20 worked just fine, the next 20 had
some cases with rings around the case bases. Same gun and the gun checked
out fine.

They used to sell PMC for $3.99 a box a few years back. Never had any issues with it.
