View Full Version : Buy or build ? Carbine to Pistol length upper.

I'm thinking of an upper in 5.45x39 for AR pistol.

I have a S&W 16" upper in 5.45, and I wonder if it's cost effective to have someone to convert it to a Pistol upper. I meant to simply reduce the barrel length and modify the gas system.

Anybody has done this ? Any cost estimate ?

Ping Randall at ar15barrels is his call sign.

It looks he does offer the service. I've used his services, great smithing.

I have 2 of those S&W uppers. That's why I'm thinking about turning one of them into a pistol upper.

Who has pistol upper in 5.45x39 ?

The most economical thing to do would be to cut it to 11.5" or so and crown, open the gas port, and go.

If you want to go shorter, you'll need to put the gas system in a new location. Depending on the barrel profile it might not be possible, as there wouldn't be a shoulder for the gas block.

Randall is good. PM him or wait til he stops by.
