Can anyone give me or lead me in the way of finding the written laws about ammo sales in California? I need to know what counties and cities are banned from ammo sales in California.

But I need it to be a website of the laws and I can't seem to find it on the DOJ website??

Any help will do.

Thanks,
TBR

I don't think any municipality has banned sales, what they do is register sales and sellers. Here is Oakland's: http://municipalcodes.lexisnexis.com/cgi-bin/hilite.pl/codes/oakland/_DATA/TITLE09/Chapter_9_20_AMMUNITION_SALES_.html

I haven't seen a list of all the places in California that do this, but if you cruise Gunbroker you might find a seller who has listed the cities and counties that restrict sales.

You won't find it on any State site, because there is no such state law.

Sources of city and county laws:

http://municipalcodes.lexisnexis.com/#CA

http://www.qcode.us/codes.htm

http://www.municode.com/Resources/OnlineLibrary.asp

I don't recall anyplace where "counties and cities are banned from ammo sales in California", though there are places that require special records.

There are certainly out of state vendors who decline to sell into apparently random places in the state.

The Librarian will cover your 6 on this one. I always look into my ATF yellow book, that has all of the state laws and muni laws that pertain to firearms.

L.A. City forbids mailorder purchase of ammo by its residents.

They want you to think so, but that's not quite what the law says.

http://www.amlegal.com/nxt/gateway.dll?f=templates&fn=default.htm&vid=amlegal:lamc_ca

SEC. 103.314.1 SELLERS OF FIREARM AMMUNITION.

(b) Permit required. No person shall engage in, manage, conduct, or carry on the business of the sales of firearm ammunition without a written permit from the Board.

(c) Fixed location. Each vendor must have a fixed place of business. Sales of ammunition may be made only at said fixed location.

LA regulates the businesses. Its citizens not engaged in the business are free to do as they please.

Whether their ordinance is enforceable by someone whose place of business is outside of the city limits is another issue.

no state laws so doj is the wrong source. rather than trying to search every city and county,go to any of the larger internet ammo vendors and they'll list the places they won't ship. it's a fairly short list.

I think big ravioli may have decided to match laws against such a vendor's list - perhaps to point out the inconsistencies between policies and the actual laws, a worthy, if likely futile in many cases, endeavor.

Change a few policies and we make some progress.
