I have a stag lower with about 2000 rounds through it. Ive noticed a crack about a qtr inch on the left side near the safety selector (rear takedown pin hole). The crack stars at the top of the receiver and goes straight down. Its only a surface crack as there is no crack on the inner reciever. Has anybody seen this on a receiver before?

+1 about contacting Stag. That isn't right for the lower to do that, especially after only about 2,000 rounds.

Are you using an accuwedge or any other upper/lower tensioning device?

No, nothing special. When I built the rifle the upper and lower were a very tight fit, I had to bang out the takedown pin with a rubber mallet. Since I filed down the the takedown pin, works fine. Other then that nothing different then any other AR

I have seen lowers crack there 2 previous times, on one occasion the person had a welder lightly tack weld with TIG(I think it was TIG, but dont quote me). The other that was cracked was not welded, and simply left as is and shot the hell out of. I dont know if they are still running, but I remember that the friends who had them fired thousands of rounds after noticing it -to see if they would break.
