I am completely overwhelmed and bewildered by the vast array of AR company's and configurations.
It's like coffee these days.
I miss the days when a cup of coffee was a cup of coffee.
Now you got Soy Venti Caramel Machiato's , and East Peruvian mint chocolate mocha delux for $6.99 a cup.
Just give me a .99 cent cup of black coffee thank you.
(Just a general rant)
That is all carry on.

You still have a choice to go with that regular cup of coffee for .99.

Variety is the Spice of Life. Your Life belongs to you, so you can be as boring as you want. ;)

Just be grateful that we still have choices to choose from!

It's a lot better than no choice at all right?!

It's amazing the different setups possible for any given AR15 rifle.

Go to ARFcom's AR15 picture thread. On page 1, 2, 3, 4, and 5 you'll gaze at all the cool different combinations of Optics, BUIS, FF rail, grips, stocks, lowers, lengths, DI or GP....

... by page 40 they'll all look alike. ;)

I didn't think a person could have TOO many Ar-15s or TOO many choices?

Dude, you sound like Denis Leary with his Coffee Rant. No one is stopping you from buying the plain ol' $0.99 cup of coffee...

The only problem is I WANT THEM ALL!

I could easily see filling my entire safe with AR's cuz I "need":

A classic "nam" era M16 clone
A service match rifle
A CQB M4
A long range sniper or varmint rifle
Oh heck, make it one sniper battle rifle and one varmint
A featureless rifle for 3 gun competition
A backup CQB 'cuz mine might break during a class, and I needed an excuse to try that other stock/rail/optic/etc
An 80% build
Gee, can't just build one 80%, gota make a few more to spread out the tooling cost
Need one in 22LR for cheap plinking
What about 308? Gota have one of those
Hey 6.8mm is the hot ticket. Better get one of those too!

Dang! I better get busy building!

True, true....

After getting mildly caught up in all the bubba'd out, faux-tactical crap for my AR, I realized I have absolutely ZERO use for that stuff and I decided to go with the .99 cent "plain cup'o'joe" 16" AR and buy a crap load of ammo. I actually saved so much cash that way that I ended up having enough left over to buy another regular cup'o'joe 20" AR. And I couldn't be happier.

So now I proudly own a Stag 2H 16" AR, a Stag 6H Super Varminter AR, and a Sherluck Marketing 20" A3 upper on a Kaiser lower. A few USEFUL accessories and a BUNCH of 5.56/.223 ammo :)

Don't believe the hype!

Choices my friend, choices. I like that we are able to build rifles that fit our needs/specifications. As for them pretty much looking the same.. well.. "This is my rifle. There are many like it, but this one is mine."

Much like ARs, some people derive pleasure by expressing their individuality through personalizing their Honda Civics or Scion XBs with all the latest branded accessories, rims, graphics, and toys. To other people, a Civic or XB is just a plain, efficient car that will get them from A to B, as long as you put gas in it.

Different strokes for different folks.

I will draw the line at Louis Vuitton rifle cases and range bags though.

I was thinking of covering a case in LV fake fabric just for fun !

You left out one with a gas piston upper, an AR pistol, a 9mm build, one in 7.62x39, a tac'd out one in FDE/OD green/marpat...

Someone who thinks likeI do. A featureless AR is last on my list.

Don't forget the beowulf. Hell, get 'em all in the same calibers with different rail/optics/lights/etc. Oh, different colors too.

I love the choices but I hate not having the dough to buy 'em all.

"I would rather be exposed to the inconveniences attending too much liberty than to those attending too small a degree of it."- Thomas Jefferson. Personally, I think Jefferson always knew the AR-15 would come!

If we all wanted the same thing, we'd all be chasing your girlfriend/wife/whatever.

As others have said, variety is the spice of life. Regarding the AR specifically, the modularity of the design is pretty much the big reason why I like it more than I like AK's.
