*Mods- I created a separate thread for this b/c of the confusion in the AB962 thread. Please move or merge with an existing thread if that would further reduce confusion. I searched, but did not find a dedicated SB 585 thread (but we know how reliable THAT is...)

As many of you already know, SB 585, which would ban the sale of firearms and ammunition at the Cow Palace, passed the Senate Appropriations Committee on May 28th.

In a rational world, one might think that this

Prior legislation .

AB 2948 (Leno), 2007-08 Session, failed passage on the Senate Floor;

SB 1733 (Speier), 2003-04 Session, failed passage on the Assembly Floor;

HR 26 (Machado), 1999-2000 Session, died in the Assembly Public Safety Committee;

AB 1575 (Machado), as amended May 24, 1999 and deleted by amendments July 1, 1999 in the Senate Public Safety Committee; and

AB 1107 (Ortiz), 1997-98 Session, failed passage in the Assembly Appropriations Committee.
would be a pretty strong hint. Unfortunately, 'rational' and 'California Legislature' seldom pass near one another.

BTW, it was amended: (b) Notwithstanding subdivision (a) and commencing January 1,
2010, no more than five events as described in subdivision (a) shall
be authorized or allowed per year on Cow Palace property. The
district shall phase out those events by replacing them with
nonfirearm or nonammunition related events and shall add no event
that increases the number of these events at the Cow Palace property
from the number in the preceding year.

Corbett represents Fremont where I was registered to vote and she's not going to listen to anyone in her district. She's only going to follow the party leaders because they are the ones who gave her the election win several years ago.

Corbett represents Fremont where I was registered to vote and she's not going to listen to anyone in her district. She's only going to follow the party leaders because they are the ones who gave her the election win several years ago.

There's that, and also those party leaders - the committee chairs, especially - control whether any of her bills will be heard or voted on.

No bills becoming law, no visibility. No visibility, nothing to show the 'folks at home'. Nothing to show, no votes next election.

Few legislators follow the principle it's not about me. These days, most of those that do do not long remain legislators.

Hey folks- we've been worrying alot about AB 962 but don't forget SB 585...Scheduled to be heard in the Assembly Public Safety Committtee Tomorrow June 30th! Call/email/FAX but be sure to send it to the right folks; I think the committee member list at the NRA Member Council link (http://nramemberscouncils.com/legs/asmpubsafety.shtml) is WRONG. The State Assembly website (http://www.assembly.ca.gov/acs/newcomframeset.asp?committee=57) currently lists the following members:

Juan Arambula - Chair
Ind-31 (916) 319-2031 Assemblymember.arambula@assembly.ca.gov

Curt Hagman - Vice Chair
Rep-60 (916) 319-2060 Assemblymember.Hagman@assembly.ca.gov

Tom Ammiano
Dem-13 (916) 319-2013 Assemblymember.Ammiano@assembly.ca.gov

Warren T. Furutani
Dem-55 (916) 319-2055 Assemblymember.Furutani@assembly.ca.gov

Danny D. Gilmore
Rep-30 (916) 319-2030 Assemblymember.Gilmore@assembly.ca.gov

Jerry Hill
Dem-19 (916) 319-2019 Assemblymember.Hill@assembly.ca.gov

Fiona Ma
Dem-12 (916) 319-2012 Assemblymember.Ma@assembly.ca.gov

I know Furutani's email addy does not work, he's one of those that won't even allow the use of his website contact form if you're not from his district (which should be illegal if you're on any committess, IMO).
But anyway get on them! Last day to do so!

Corbett represents Fremont where I was registered to vote and she's not going to listen to anyone in her district. She's only going to follow the party leaders because they are the ones who gave her the election win several years ago.

So much for the core of what a Republic is. Basically for people in her district, they are no longer represented because she won't listen to them and instead going to follow party leaders. She is obligated first and foremost by her oath of office to preserve and protect the Constitution, second she represents people in her district, so far she has chosen to ignore both. She is treasonous to the government of California for totally failing to fulfill her obligation to her office. People in her district should be outraged and next election cycle voted out or immediately have a recall, she is a disgrace to the office.

Does anyone know if this has actually been voted on today. I know my state reps will already vote yes :( . I actually considered running for office at one point and time then discovered I don't have the right connections. I hate the corruption that seems to invade our Government which is one reason I would never get elected.

here is the schedule (http://www.assembly.ca.gov/committee_hearings/defaulttext.asp)

right now (11:20 AM) they are discussing SB282, about gang injunction duration; SB 585 is scheduled to be heard about 6 bills later on the list.

ETA in recess til 1330, currently hearing SB484, ephedrine/psuedoeph, which they will pick up again after recess. if they follow the schedule SB 585 will follow immediately after that.

i think room 126 (where PS was meeting) switched over to Veteran's Affairs Committee @ 1600 as per the schedule. i'm pretty sure Public Safety adjourned w/o getting to SB 585, they voted on the ephedrine bill and then i think maybe SB 41 (Lowenthal), but that's it.
this may be good if true; PS meets only 1 more time (on the 7th) before the July 10 deadline for all bills to get out of committee; this means that even if they reschedule it for July 7th, time is running out....

Once again, in addition to phone calls, I emailed the NRA list.

Just finished calling the committee, and it occurs to me that when we know that a member is already with us, would it be more effective to have a way to "call off the dogs" as it were and not tie up their phones? If the pain of a zillion phone calls is one of Ed Worley's useful weapons, then it makes me wonder if being able to apply more selective pain would be useful.

I think it would have to be done through the NRA website, since once a politician said he was with us and then reneged when the actual vote came he'd have to be blacklisted and not eligible for having the calls stop by telling Ed that he's already on our side.

Just a random thought, albeit one that would require some effort. I suppose Ed Worley and Paul Payne would have to be the ones to say if it would increase their leverage when lobbying in Sacramento.

Ugh!

Too bad this isn't considered unconstitutional against the 1st ammendment right to assemble.

Disgusting how such 2A discriminatory legislature continues to be successful.
