Just perusing some picture posts over on ARF and came across this picture. It has two things on it that were new to me, so I figured I'd share. Feel free to stick your "dupe smilies" where the sun don't shine - not everyone can be "in the know" all the time... ;)

Picture shows a KAC "finger stop" and some new (to me) TROY rail protectors. Both looking awesome on this little SBR. Enjoy!

Thats new to me too.

Looks awesome. Very MP5Kish. If I was able to own an SBR in our great state, I would have it look just like that one.

Something that is NOT new to me from KAC: They discriminate against Californians, and they refuse to ship ANY kind of part or accessory directly to us. You will never see any of their stuff on my builds. I am still waiting to see their donation check to Calguns ala Mr. LaRue:)

No, when I ordered a UK-SAS bottom rail for my old RAS setup, they cancelled my order and refunded my credit card, saying specificaly it was because I live in CA.

When you are firing full-auto on a SBR, that is to prevent the muzzle from coming back from recoil and your hand slipping, and potentially shooting your hand.... in the extreme case...

I personally would flip it around, and use it as a hand stop.... my current VFG is just my hand stop..... for my "far reaching right hand grip" kinda hold.... that little piece seems to be lighter than a VFG... (but I think ErgoGrip may have something similar that is very low cost.... anything KAC will be like many many times over what you think it would cost...)

That's B.S. when Anti-CA idiots try a make a statement by refusing to business with us. As if that's going to validate their positions by doing so. All it's doing is making them look defeated by the the Anti-powers that be. Makes about as much sense as saying, "I'm my going to sell to the whole of the Country just because I don't like the Anti-gunners that are currently in power in all three branches".

If I ran a company, I would make it a point to try and legally send all the guns and related equipment to those states that infringe on the rights of their Citizens. I would offer the same discounts to Citizens of gun oppressed States as I would to Military and LE, as a sign of solidarity. It's a no brainer, but I'm weird like that. :gunsmilie:

Front: Magpul MBUS
Rear: LaRue LT-103

Pretty bad choice for the front.... MBUS just look out of place on that gun.... if the rear is a fixed... it is just logical to use a fixed sight for the front too... or something that will lock in deployed position.... LMT front, the new Troy fixed front, or even the Troy flip front would be a much better choice!!!!

the kac looks like it'll be harder to classify as a vfg, though i'm sure the the definition anything that protrudes out front could be classified as such by an overzealous prosecutor.

the ergo looks like a no go for featureless build though.

wonder if tangodown or magpul will make a poly version that's way cheaper. a hand stop doesn't need that solid of a retention.

You wouldn't expect ANY thing less.... it's KAC..... *sigh*

Their VFG is $67!!

But if the hand stop includes the detachable sling mount, it is not that bad... it can never be a VFG... it is just a sling mount!!

I like that idea of turning it around if you do not have a VFG and using it to sort of brace/pull against as a stop with the edge of your hand as it wraps around the handguard. it would be even cooler if it could fold up or down, like a BUIS.. maybe even spring deploy action :) then it might be worth $60.

visually, i like the KAC design over the Ergo.

Actually been looking at a solution for "featureless" builds that want a legal way to simulate a forward pistol grip. I think the ERGO one can be cut to work perfectly. Here's a pic of my prototype I made back in October of last year. Pic was taken with just a separated upper, but later had a chance to use it at the range on a BB equipped lower.

http://hotimg25.fotki.com/a/76_91/221_146/fingerfate1887.jpg

http://hotimg25.fotki.com/a/76_91/221_146/fingerfate2.jpg

It ran surprisingly well. Easy to control and helped eliminate muzzle climb.

Since the only definition of a pistol grip is the same one we've been using for featureless builds, a forward pistol grip "must" be the same, but placed forward of the regular one. So, keep anything you can "grip" above the imaginary line at the bottom of the action and you're golden.

Furthermore, a finger-hook would be hard to call a pistol grip as you can't really hold the weapon one handed with it, nor can you really "grasp" anything that narrow and short. You can pull against it, but not "hold" it. It's essentially a "trigger."

I was calling it the "Finger of Fate" ;)

Been looking for the right foundation to build this and hadn't found anything I was happy with that didn't cost too much to even think about cutting up. At $5 a pop, I can afford to wreck one or two getting it right.

Going to have to pick up an ERGO and see what I can make with my trusty Dremel.

Oh, I will definitely post pics when I get them on there. I have my DPMS high quad rail tube in the mail right now from R&R for my AR-10 (which the Troy stuff will go on). The funny thing is I already bought Magpul XT rail covers and a DPMS foregrip for the AR-10, guess those will just have to go on my Remington 870 or my AK if I ever get a rail assembly for it. I'm running all tango down stuff on my S&W MP15T, so no use for that stuff there. My AR-10 is currently on Iteration 2, but Iteration 3 will be be complete only when i get all that stuff on and get my Timney drop in trigger added, and hopefully replace the EMOD stock with a UBR (that is an expense I am having a hard time justifying).

Here is a Picture of Iteration 2 (click on the picture for large view)
http://thumb0.webshots.net/t/62/762/7/28/83/2131728830074982880oQvuZU_th.jpg (http://sports.webshots.com/photo/2131728830074982880oQvuZU)

For this Iteration of my AR-10 I currently have:
POF 308 Gen 3 lower, DPMS 308 upper assembly w/ 18" Bull Barrel, Magpul MIAD grip, Vltor EMOD, and a BSA stealth Tactical scope on it.

djleisure
06-03-2009, 6:11 AM
That's a nice lookin' AR-10 and I know what you mean about "iterations" - here's my third (and final-ish?) iteration of one of my AR's. I love the Magpul XTM rail covers and the UBR, but I ordered a few of those Troy rail covers to try out on this or one of my other builds... mix and match, baby!

What type of trigger are you running in that? I have a timney 4lb AR-10 trigger on the way from Coldwar Shooters. The LPK I installed in my AR-10 originally was a RRA kit, but the trigger pull is so heavy its pulling my shots off the mark. I went with the AR-10 model after calling POF and speaking with Chris, who recommended the AR-10 model because of the stronger springs (he was worried I would get light strikes with 3lb Skeleton trigger I originally ordered.

djleisure

I hope Troy has them in stock, haven't gotten a shipping notification yet...

The rail panels look good. Thanks for the info.

I don't buy anything new from KAC their prices are a joke. They make a $12,000.00+ .308 which is absurd. You could buy a much better BARRETT for thousands less. I do have one KAC SOPMOD M4 Carbine RIS rail, which I got for $5.00 at the bottom of a $5.00 specials box at a gun store (yep it was my lucky day), because it was missing a screw. I got a high strength rated screw for .50 and it works fine. I have KAC rail panels, but bought them used in a bunch of panels. By the time I sold off the rest, the ones I kept didn't cost me anything (they look new). Otherwise, I don't usually shop for KAC. I'll live.

I would like to purchase this item, but have heard that you wont ship to
california. Is this true? Would an accessory that very well may be for
an airsoft gun such as this finger stop not be able to be shipped to ANYONE
in california? Please let me know before i place the order. Thanks.

Their response

Currently it is Knight's policy not to ship any form of a firearm or
firearm accessory to California unless it is going direct to a Law
Enforcement agency, however there are other companies that will ship to
CA from the internet there is OperationParts.com. Otherwise if your
item were to be shipped to an address outside of CA I don't see anything
wrong with that.

If you have any questions let me know.

I might have missed but does anyone know if this the ERGO surestop is CA legal for AR pistols.

Here is the pic for previous pages. http://www.ergogrips.net/item-detail.cfm?ID=4201-SS&storeid=1&image=surestop.gif&CFID=38299638&CFTOKEN=83500287

It looks like a cheaper possible better alternative.

Sweet the front grip on the rail looks just like the one on a p90

Got my KAC Fingerstop from Operation Parts last week. Really like it so far, though it's not gone to the range yet. After handling it, I believe that it's perfectly legal on a featureless build.

Like the muzzle brake/flash suppressor distinction, if something is sold/marketed as a muzzle brake it's a muzzle brake. Similarly the KAC fingerstop is sold as just that...a finger stop. Not a pistol grip. You cannot hold an AR by the finger stop alone if trying to use a pistol-style grasp.
