because it is detachable isn't it "technically" a SBS because it does not require the AR for function? and the barrel is like 8 inches :-P

I saw this in another thread. Try using Google by searching "site:calguns.net" then adding your keywords after that (separated by spaces of course).

The general consensus in the other thread, from about a week ago, was that this constituted an SBS (Short Barreled Shotgun) and was therefore a no-no. I'm not sure if the SBS restrictions are for CA or if they're a federal issue though.

Why are all the cool looking weapon systems illegal?

Get a C&R 870, SBS it through the proper legal channels, and you'd be good to go.

Isn't that just a Mossberg Persuader (not a sbs) somehow attached to an M-16? What proper legal channels would I have to go through?

The shotgun itself you could transfer as an AOW and would be completely CA-legal.

The problem is that the current BATFE opinion is that even an AOW, once attached to a rifle with a shoulder stock, it morphs into an SBS.

This opinion is wrong, and there are some letters into the BATFE requesting them to revise the opinion, but until they change it it's basically law.

I've shot the C-more as a stand alone platform. It's neat as an SBS but nor anything overly incredible. Fun to shoot though. It's pump action via charging handle on the left side that folds down somewhat out of the way. The mags are the same as the Saiga 12 with a slight modification to the rear. It's rather light, and as a standalone due to the lack of a butt pad and the sharp edge on it's CAR stock it's got a bite to it. With an AR slip on stock pad I don't think the recoil would be bad at all. I think the 870 idea a la Predator (or KAC Masterkey) might be more functional, and would certainly be more compact.
