Below is an excerpt email from Mr. Geoff Barrett in regards to selling the KA-legal Bushmaster receiver. Ok, anyone hear from Armalite, Rock River Arms, ASA, etc. (or any other AR-maker for that matter) if they are making a KA-legal receiver for this Commie State? http://calguns.net/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_mad.gif

------------------------------------------

There are two parts to this answer. The first part of the answer is
that we couldn't do it even if we
wanted to. Upon the expiration of the Federal Assault Weapons ban,
Bushmaster and everyone else
were literally "cleaned out" of rifles and parts and they are still
fulfilling backorders from last
Fall for COMPLETE RIFLES ONLY, out of current production. They have
stated that they are a
RIFLE company First, and secondarily a Parts company. I don't see us
getting uppers or lowers
in the near future.

The second part of the answer is that we have chosen not to, anyway.
There exists a little-known
issue called a FEDERAL EXCISE TAX on manufactured rifles, which is 11%.
Putting a Lower receiver
together with an Upper receiver is interpreted as manufacturing a rifle.
While there are different rules
for Licensees and Individuals, we have chosen to order only COMPLETE
RIFLES at this time and WE
pay the 11% Excise Tax. We don't make more money by selling complete
rifles. In fact, we make a
little less, because of the Excise Tax. It's a much "cleaner" way to go
and we don't worry about
Federal Agents seeking this revenue from us at some future date. Nor
should you, since you
purchased a complete rifle.

Thanks again for your interest. Let us know if we can help you in the
future.

Sincerely,

Geoff Barrett

This is the biggest bunch of B.S. I have heard in awhile. It's more like. "Because we are money grubbers and know that you don't have that many choices we only sell over priced rifles"

If you don't like their business policy, don't buy from them. Even better, start your own business and you can sell lowers. It shouldn't be hard to beat his prices since if you buy and sell just lowers and uppers unassembled, you don't have to recoup the FET. That said, he is right about all the big makers being cleaned out of parts and working at full capacity trying to catch up. Bushmaster quoted me a 8-10 week wait for a M4 upper, and it prob would have been even longer than that.

Al,

I corrected your typo http://calguns.net/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_biggrin.gif </div></BLOCKQUOTE>

Yeah I ended up getting a LMT upper instead. Gotta try to borrow a digicam sometime so I can post pics.

I got it off http://globaltactical.com/axami/shop.php?. I got the 14.5 " barrel w/ perm attached YHM Phantom 5C2 to bring it out to 16+". They screwed up the initial install by drilling all the way through to the rifling when pinning/welding the FS. http://calguns.net/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_eek.gif I could just tell something was wrong b/c there was a tiny bead on the rifling where the weld had come through the tiny hole. Contacted Denny who runs the place and he sent me a new upper. Mistakes happen and they took care of it.
