I bought one of these, and I'm wondering which aftermarket rear sights are best and will work. Not gonna run glass, just laser and light. I like iron sights on my carbines. Any suggestions/ideas. I appreciate it.

Good evening Man With No Name,

I purchased my aftermarket rear sight from Accuracy Systems, Inc. www.accuracysystemsinc.com. From their main page click on the "Ruger Rifles" tab then select "Mini-14" and scroll about half way down. I purchased the "M1A Style" for mine. I attached a few pictures for your review. I'm not familiar with Ruger's "NRA Model" so you might want to check with the manufacturer to make sure this will fit your rifle, if in fact you choose this particular rear sight. I like mine!

Have a nice evening.

Williams makes an adjustable aftermarket - check out Bownells. I had one and it worked fine. I switched over to one of these:

I had to dress down the dovetail to 3/8" to have the proper fit in the receiver. Works fine for me.

The NRA version is based on a 580/581 series receiver, so a dovetailed rear sight won't work. The rear sight on my 580 w/tapered barrel is affixed with a small hex-screw. To my knowledge, there are no "drop-in" aftermarket sights, but, you can get a replacement aperture.

I found this info on another forum -
