Pardon my ignorance , but can you or can you not buy an AR-10 type of rifle in this screwy state? I know a few years ago registration of these toys became law here:rolleyes::smilielol5:. I get vague answers from different stores. What's the straight poop? Thanks in advance.

Same rules apply to AR-10 type as any other rifle. Run it through the flowchart....You'll see.

It is possible, but will be hard to find one here. The best way to do it is to build one yourself. But pay attention to the laws, you will either need to do a bullet button or a featureless build.

I just put one together. Same deal as an AR-15.

If you're just getting started and want to know more about the process in general vs specifically obtaining an AR10 you should read the overview tenpercentfirearms has on their webiste:

If you do a search on this site you will find many threads on how to legally obtain an AR10/AR15. If you don't want to build your own there are retailers that advertise on this site that can sell you what you're looking for (if it's in stock - good luck).

The short answer is yes you can buy an AR-10 type rifle in CA. You just need to build it off an Off-list lower (OLL) receiver. There are 2 main camps of .308 chambered AR pattern rifles: DPMS and Armalite Compatible. Note you cannot just get a DPMS or Armalite receiver or rifle in CA, those are verboten by law. :(

You'll need to figure out which system is the one you want first and then select the complete upper assembly to go with your lower receiver choice.
