I am looking at buying a stock for my first AR15 build, but I've run into a question that I'm unsure of.

Here's an example from Vltor's website regarding their EMOD:
"The EMOD is available for either the standard "MilSpec" receiver extension tube, or for the aftermarket "Commercial" size tube."

They sell either the stock by itself, or as a combo kit with a milspec receiver extension tube. How does a "commercial" sized tube differ from milspec?

Check out this document for the specs on MilSpec and Commercial tubes. Commercial is a bit thicker but I don't think it really makes a difference.

From my research I'm convinced milspec is stronger even thou It's smaller. It has to do with the way the threads are made to screw into the lower.

Go with milspec. They you have alot of readily available options...Magpul CTR, LMT SOPMOD, VLTOR, and standard Colt M4...just to name a few.
