Been trying to search for this answer all over, but haven't had any luck with this specific problem:

Building up an AR with an 18" barrelled upper, intermediate length gas tube. Is there any drawback/dangers/things to look out for if I use a carbine length receiver extension and carbine spring/buffer with this set up? Or do I need to use a full length extension tube and rifle spring/buffer with a long barrel AR?

Mostly wondering about the reliability of the cycling and wear and tear on the BCG.

Thanks!

No, no problem with it at all. Many people have done it. I personally think it looks goofy, but that's a whole different issue! :)

I run a 20" target upper with a carbine buffer/spring set-up and 6-position extension.

Yeah, it looks a little odd...but necessary for me in obtaining optimal LOP/cheek weld/eye relief.

Standard rifle stock length is too much for me.
