Assuming one could get their hands on an SA version, how would this sound for making it CA compliant?
Cutting a belt into 12 round segments, welding/ permanently attaching dummy rounds into the ends. Then afix the feed cover in such a manner so that a tool must be used to open it. Belts couldn't be changed without using the feed cover tool. Ideas? Input?

featureless would be better. then you could use your preban belts. you can't feasably remove the p/g iirc but you could make a filler to go between it and the stock.
The Centurys use an aluminum trigger group/ pistol grip housing made by Wiselite (or at least used to). You could cut the pistol grip and flash suppressor off and go featureless. If you mount it on the tripod, the lack of a pistol grip is hidden by the tripod although the flash supp would be more noticeable.
Keep a spare trigger housing / group & FS / booster assembly for those out of state jaunts. Yeah, belt feds ain't cheap....

The problem with going featureless is some belt feds require the booster, and it could be argued that the booster is a flash suppressor.
That would be the biggest hurdle, in my opinion.

From the TNW website http://www.tnwfirearms.com/guns_mg34.shtml
Own a Piece of German History
This modified original German MG34 has been remanufactured using genuine parts to shoot semi-auto only and can not be converted to full auto. It shoots closed bolt.
You will find the detailed workmanship of this remanufactured weapon to be very close to the original and is excellent for shooters. Fires commercial 8mm ammunition.
For a limited time we will be offering this semi-auto MG34. Includes links and BATF approval letter.
All TNW Firearms, Inc. guns sold with a one year parts and workmanship warranty. Do not miss the chance to own a legend - but without all of the full-auto hassles!
This firearm will shoot semi-auto only and cannot be converted to full-auto. This firearm is BATF approved and may be legally owned in all 50 states.
I believe they make a featureless build by chopping of most of the pistol grip. You are on your own for belts.

iirc the p/g is an integral part of the frame. cutting it off would probably suck. in any event, if someone does one please post pix. it'll be truly awesome.

I'm planning on putting one on a tripod so then all I would have to deal with is the flash hider. The nice thing about the tripod is it makes them really easy to bump fire.

I posted earlier in the 2A forum only to find that the belt can be inserted without lifting the feed tray, so much for my idea of locking the feed tray.

arent they originally open bolt type guns? so you'd have to make a floating firing pin and a hammer setup right? Just a wide guess i dont know.

Making the MG42 Cali legal is pretty easy. Who do you guys want to use to get the 42's Henderson? Let me know and I will contact him and tell him the easy way to do it. No cutting of the grip or flash hider required....:chris:

I always figured the BEST way to do it would be to have a 10 round belt made and loop it around the gun - it could be longer than a 10 round belt, but it just couldn't hold more than ten. At this point it would be a fixed magazine as once the top plate was opened it wouldn't be able to slide forward off the gun and the grip frame would prevent it from coming off the rear, unless the grip frame were removed, at which point the gun would be disassembled.

Finally got photos of the grip on my friend's "CA legal", semi-auto MG42.
Gun is from BRP, not TNW.
What say you all? Is this a legal grip?
