View Full Version : BOLT MARKINGS - Colt, FN, etc...

Considering all the confusion around bolt markings and people selling bolts that they think are "Colts" (or know that they're not but are hoping that the buyer doesn't know), I figured I would post some photos of the Colt bolts that I have. I also have a couple of FN bolts and I have a photo of the CMT/Stag "CM" marked bolt....

Please note that these are just the bolts that I have in my possession and I definitely don't have 'em all. I know there are others in the MPxC series (where "x" = different letters). There's also the "MPD" marked Diemaco Bolts...there are definitely som I've never seen before so this isn't a definitive list by any means. All these bolts that I have came either directly from Colt or from a known, trusted source.

In regards to the "CM" marked bolts that came in factory Colts, I'd be interested in seeing a photo of them. The CMT made ones that I've seen were all marked similarly to the photo that I have (letter punch or machine scribe). All the Colt bolts I've seen were marked using some form of dot matrix impact markings or whatever process is used in the "MP" marked one (could be chemical etching, maybe some sort of "random" dot impact, I'm not sure what the process is). What I have NEVER seen in a Colt bolt are ones that are marked like the CMT "CM" ones. If anyone has any corrections, let me know and I'll update.

This is a followup thread from this LINK (http://www.calguns.net/calgunforum/showthread.php?t=163878)

COLT MP - Note, the LMT marked "MP" ones are different looking. The "MP" is letter punched and very small on the LMT's.

Nice~~ now people who wanna fake their bolts can just copy one of these engravings....

If you look closely, you can see that those are impact engravings...not too many people have those in their home... :) That's going to be hard to do with an electro-pencil. ;)
