View Full Version : Colt Defender Grip Safety

I just bought a new Colt Defender and want to change out the grip safety - the flat beavertail tye puts my hand very low and is not contoured to the grip tang, looks lousy as hell. I'm looking at two solutions. Either a very short "no beavertail type" skinny type similar to the old Commander or an aftermarket drop in. I was told the Caspian would work, it doesn't fit and I really don't want to start grinding away on the thing.

Has anyone replaced theirs and can offer an alternative to the factory? Beavertail is fine, I have large hands but fairly boney & not prone to hammer bite, so a short plain old skinny tang is fine.

Wilson makes a drop in that will fit nicely and is comfortable.

I have the Wilson drop in beavertail/grip safety on my Defender. It leaves a small gap between frame and beavertail, but it doesn't require cutting the frame and functions just fine.
