I would say definetly not, you would have an SBS.

Not legal. That would be a Short Barrel Shotgun and cannot be had by the average citizen in CA. I forget the length restrictions for shotguns in CA exactly, but it's something like 18" barrel limit... anything less = SBS.

Currently the opinion is that even if you used an CA-legal AOW-registered masterkey firearm, the moment you attach it to the rifle, the rifle's shoulder stock turns the AOW into an unregistered SBS.

You could legally buy/build one as an AOW. Check out the thread in ke6guj's signature.

The snag is does it become an SBS once it is mounted to the host firearm? Current opinion is that it does, which would be bad.

Gene Hoffman and I had some very interesting conversation about exactly this topic over the weekend. I'll post more in the morning.

Hence the need to get a C&R shotgun and properly register it ;).
