Trying to decide between the two:
1. 6.5 Grendel 24" upper to go with my RRA complete lower (already have 16"
RRA Varmint Upper and Spike's .22 Conversion kit.)
2. CMMG 308 (DMPS style) Lower and DPMS LR-308 24" upper

I mostly just do target shooting at Burrow (100-200 yards). But like the thought of being able to go hunting with a semi-auto larger caliber. Although I already have a Rem 700 308 for that. Don't have all the funds up front and would probably do it in stages. I do some reloading so the cost and rarity of the 6.5 hopefully would not be as much as an issue. The idea of having one gun in multiple calibers (.223, 6.5, .22LR) is also appealing and saves cost in having to buy another complete lower. But might regret not getting the CMMG 308 if it ever becomes restricted. What is your opinion and why?

I'd go with the Grendel, especially since you can reload. From what I've read it has more advantages than the .308. The only disadvantage I can think of is availability of the Grendel round over the .308.
Oh yea, I also like the fact that I can use the same lower I use for my ar15 set up.

Grendel.

I sold my 308 kit, but I still have the 6.5.

If you're only shooting 100-200 yards you won't get much fun out of the .308 that you can't already get from your R700.

The issue of buying a CMMG .308 lower in case it becomes restricted is different, and now you're talking about an investment. You can certainly buy one for that reason, and just leave it in your safe for a rainy day. If the ban ever comes, you can then turn that lower into a small profit, but you're hedging your bets on that either way.

Old West, You will HAVE to get a .308 AR sooner or later but I think the grendel may be the ticket for you. Why spend so much more for a lower and upper when all you are going to do is shoot 200 yards? I suggest you get the 6.5G, stand on the ledge of a cliff, beat your chest and scream with your genitalia exposed and call it a day. I will probably pick one up one soon and do the same.

Whenever it's a toss-up I go for the one that shoots the most abundant, cheapest ammo.
